Thanks for the positive responses! I love the shine it leaves and zero water spotting, since there is little water and you're drying as you clean.

I can't believe I waited so long to get one. It is good IMO if you're doing ONR with just one bucket (some people use the ONR bucket + a rinse bucket). ONR lifts dirt into the wash media, so the dirt all goes back in the bucket. The GG does a good job of keeping it in the bottom of the bucket.

+1 to KL2DC - 17" ASA JH3

I got them last winter from Tire Rack with the Dunlop M3 DSST tires (225 R17). The tires were costly, but those wheels are inexpensive. They fit the 335i, too. They are popular for winter -- Tire Rack sold out of them the last two winters, IIRC.

The center caps are ASA with a Roundel sticker(!) over them that Tire Rack put on them. They look pretty much like regular BMW center caps even up close.

It is faster for me, because I'm deliberate about washing. With ONR, I like that you can stop at any time and get back to it later without worrying about leaving water spots.

Here are some demos of how it works, courtesy of a guy with a ponytail and nice cars. Plus you can search for "ONR" here at e90post and elsewhere online for more info.

How do you like the Mothers Chrome Polish?
Haven't washed mine in a few weeks and ran out of Griot's car wash last time. If I can find some of that ONR I think I'll give it a whirl this week.

You have to buy it online. I got it from Danase (http://store.danase.com/opnowaandsh3.html) but there are a bunch of places that sell it. Buying by the gallon is cheapest, but you should try it first to see if you like it. I bought the 32oz bottle.

Mothers Chrome Polish - this stuff works fine for cleaning the exhaust tips. I'm sure there are better metal polishes / cleaners out there, but I saw this at a Pep Boys or something one day and picked it up. It worked, so I've stuck with it. I polish using an old soft white t-shirt, just like polishing military medals with Brasso back in the day. It gets all the soot off. I've used it for about the last year and a half, and it has kept the exhaust tips looking good.

Any detriment in depending on ONR for daily washes throughout the year (in place of a proper wash)? I am sure the zaino on your car helps in the cleaning process and protects against marring/swirling...
There are several detailers I respect that use ONR for winter washes (including shimshimhada and JOYRIIDE1113 and picus and others here at e90post). Some people use it year round. Search here and on autopia.org to read both positive and negative comments on it. The consensus is overwhelmingly positive; still, it took a leap of faith for me to use the stuff.

One reason I wouldn't use it year round is because spraying with a hose, you reach areas you can't reach with ONR. For example, when doing the wheel wells, I could see places with salt on them that I couldn't easily reach, so I left them alone. With a hose, I could've just sprayed the hell out of them. Still, I'm sure I'll use it occasionally during the summer.

Having a sealant and wax under the dirt probably doesn't protect from swirls (just use a light touch, a soaked sponge or mitt, several passes, and rinse out the mitt or sponge often). But I'm sure it makes it easier to clean.

BK, did you buy a GG online or at a local store (if local store what is the store you bought from?).

I hate myself for not having a GG all these years but the only GG I know are all online and I cannot find any at local store

I am like you. I never used one with the hose and soap, either, but I will from now on. I got the GG from Danase the same time as I bought the ONR, but if I were you, I'd get it from Detailed Image -- they have a special on them this month. Just sucks to pay shipping for such an inexpensive item, but that's how it goes with online shopping.

Oh, yes. I lurk more than I post there, but I've been reading those threads for a long time. I have what, thousands of posts here? Maybe a dozen or less over there.

I hear ya...

I have yet to post once! But I am waiting to finish organizing all my stuff, and then I am going to properlly introduce myself. I started a local detailing business (my town and surrounding areas only since i do pickup and delivery) in NO way competing with SHIM. But I have done 4 cars so far, and i will post all my "click and brag" threads after I have been their a while.

But yeah a great place to learn about detailing. There is a good amount of overlap in members with this forum too. (Scheerspeed, Fminus, ect..)

Great writeup, and glad the ONR worked well for you. I'm still amazed everytime I use it. With the before/after pictures you posted, it's hard not to see that this stuff really does work. I'm using a Home Depot grout sponge, but I'll give the Lowes one a try next.

The exhaust pipes came out great btw.

I've been testing ONR on my old 2000 Camry - so far, so good (two washes). I'm going to try the grout sponge. After the first use, my microfiber wash mitt turned a permanent grey color.

Have any users had a negative experience as far as micro scratches or other surface problems you think are caused by ONR?

WOW!

I never thought the no-rinse products would do that good of a job. I'll need to look into that. I'm going to get some of the Mother's polish as well. My exhaust needs it.

I've been avoiding responding because I don't want to feel like I'm bumping my own thread, but I wanted to say thanks to the positive responses.

The reason I posted this thread was because a week or two ago, when I tried ONR the first time, I was so impressed that I wished I'd taken photos. I immediately noticed it leaves the finish even slicker and shinier than my usual weekly wash with a hose and Z7. This week, the car was really dirty, so I broke out the camera, knowing the results would be dramatic. Glad you guys like it.

Under the salt and crud, I have several layers of Z2, most recently applied back in December sometime, and PB Natty's Blue paste wax applied about 3 weeks ago. That may contribute to the shine, but you can be assured that those photos are unretouched and the results really are that dramatic, at least on my black car. I haven't seen any marring from the ONR process, but as I said, the skeptic I am, I continue to use more solution than required and use a light touch.

Today it is raining here in the DC area. This weekend looks like another ONR weekend.

wow the car looks amazing BK! I'm always afraid of scratching the paint, isn't a "tile and grout sponge" too rough/coarse for washing the car? I would think something like that would damage the paint/finish?
