Not really caring much for such a spacious car at this price.
Normally I would change my mind after testdriving cars and ending up with nothing. But I believe any BMWs wouldn't disappoint me in terms of the balance between driving pleasure and comfort. |

I am pretty much set on a 528i. Need the extra space. At current prices, not sure why anyone would get a 530 over a 528i as the n20 is faster, lighter and better mpg then the 3.0 i-6.

More importantly, a turbocharged 4-pot will never sound anywhere near as smooth as the legendary naturally aspirated straight six. |

Since day one. N20 528i does 0-100 in 6.3s vs N53 530i's 0-100 in 6.6s. Not to mention the 528i is 35kgs lighter than the 530i with more torque over a much wider rev range. Btw, the HK-spec 530i is just a rebadge of the N52 528i (no change in power), whereas the EU-spec N53 530i is fitted with the N53 engine from the E60 530i (hence power hike from 258ps to 272ps). The 6-cyl sound is not worth HK$90k, plus the extra fuel consumption & annual licence fees. |

BMW sales told me after the 1st batch, the 530i will only be available to custom order as they won't be ordering them for stock. They don't anticipate huge demand anyway.

Not sure, but not many. It's just a rebadged N52 528i. Sales told me nobody's really interested in it due to the price difference between N20 528i & N52 530i.
On paper u're paying nearly $90k for 13 more horses & 40 less "torques", plus the added fuel consumption & road licencing fees. |

I will not 90k for a significantly slower car with barely any tune potential just for the I-6 sound. People whined about the turbo sound of the 335i compared to the 330i when it first came out but having owned a 335i, I would take that car over a 330i any day. Similarly, I would take a 528i over a 530i even if they cost the same. The fact that it costs 90k less is just a bonus.

Yes, but I agree there is no point to pay extra 90k for better sound and worse useable performance. Turbo engines would be the trend on automotives. I would try my best to try as much NA car as I can. Last edited by ny911; 02-19-2012 at 09:28 PM.. |

No I am avoiding a test drive, because I am certain it would awake memories of my 335i and make me order a car right away. I will order a 528 probably at the end of the year, around Nov/Dec.
