I had this code as a shadow code (no SES light) for a while before it turn into a hard code (with SES light). The dealer will not do anything without the SES light ON because BMW warranty will not cover it.
After about 1 month, the SES did turn ON. The SA told me that the "Throttle Actuator" had over 200 faults event. Solution was to replace it. Because you are close to your CPO warranty expiration date and you do not have the SES light ON, you can document the shadow code by sending the BMWHAT report to the dealer with mileage and date. This event needs to be repeated many times over a given period to trigger the SES light. |

Most of them that set an SES but arent serious concerns set an SES on the second start. On the BT tool it tells you when the SES light will come on, maybe that app will do the same if you click on the code?

I brought mine in and said SES light comes on and off. SA said if it comes back, bring it back in and soon as I brought it back for second time SA immediately ordered the parts and replaced soon as the parts came in.
I'm guessing SA needs some sort of documentation before actual parts replacement. |

I would of expected the actuators to be cleaned somewhat during your cbu effort. fortunately mine was covered on warranty and I went ahead to do cbu on my own as precautionary before egr block.
from my understanding the code 4687 occurs when there is excessive build up and throttle flap is malfunctioning. generally, it should get stuck open as if it's closed... I think you can tell if so. I don't have experience with DIY cleaning but would imagine cleaning should help. |

Throttle actuator cleaner took care of the fault for about a day. Did the throttle reset (see below) thinking that it may help and the code is gone. We'll see if that lasts. I'll be ordering a new throttle actuator if/when the code pops back up. Removing it is simple if you have allen wrenches/keys that are long.
1. Insert key, foot off the brake, foot off the gas. 2. press start button. 3. Press on gas pedal all the way down for 30 seconds. 4. While foot on pedal at 30 second mark press start button, release gas. 5. Leave key in, wait a full 2 min to start, press brake hit start button and drive. |

Is this how you reset your throttle? |
