Mobile Detail Service Chipped My Paint

I recently had a mobile detail shop clean the my car and when buffing out one of the deeper stains on the paint, the top of the buffer pad flew off and made a minor chip through the paint on the door. Although it was small in diameter, it still went through the layers of paint to the grey. They did it infront of me and they are willing to either make a claim through their insurance to cover or just settle with me by paying me $250. However, they said if it's through insurance, they will need to repaint the whole car door.

Would you guys recommend the repaint, or just take the $250?

How much do you like your car? Is the body in otherwise damn near perfect condition.

Well if it is a claim thorough their insurance you might as well go with that option.

Yes, the body is in perfect condition. The chip is very small and they tried to use touch up paint and smooth it over, but it's too deep.

This is my first BMW; my concern is that if they repaint, it will never be as good a quality or job as oem paint. Is that a valid concern?

If they do quality work then it will be perfect. I had my driver side door and side skirt replaced back in 2015. The shop that did the work matching everything 100%. I also had my rear bumper replaced last year when my buddy cracked it after backing into it. Same shop did the work and the bumper is matched 100%.

And I feel you man, the car is like my kid. I had 3 BMWs so far (have 2 now) so I know where you are coming from.

I'd have them fix it, odds are it might cost more than the $250 they are offering. Besides, it forces them to do it right.
