Just making sure... this will also work for the 328 right? Since they are both E9X platform?

As you can see, the left side is still the original 335i set-up with vogland spring. The right side is the M3 lower camber link with M3 damper and Swift main spring, helper spring, adapters and thrust sheets.

The swift main and helper spring combo are much lighter than the vogland by 1 lb and 15 oz. Not to mention the M3 lower camber link is already 2 lbs lighter than the 335i unit(much less un-sprung mass!). Lighter springs have faster reaction. Faster spring reaction absorbs bumps on the road and other harsh conditions faster (tires can stick better on pavement), and smoother, therefore, you get better ride quality, and easier on tires. We have fitted up to 800 lb/in spring(don't try this at home kids!) and the ride is as good if not better than the heavy single 600 lb/in spring.

A customer who rode in the car yesterday said he can't believe how well my car rides with such an agressive suspension set-up!

It happened on a pretty rough site with lots of elevation changes. It seems the bushing got unloaded and shifted a bit when the suspension became fully unloaded at the peak of an undulation. Then, when the weight of the car came back down to load the suspension, the "nipple" on top of the bushing had shifted underneath the sheet metal and the weight of the car was smashing down on that nipple, destroying the bushing.

In fact, a tougher polyurethane bushing with a taller nipple might be enough to prevent that in the future.
Are you on a stock rear damper and spring?

Hey Harold,
I thought you were reaplcing the rear rods with the M3 rear rods?
I pointed to these in the picture with the red arrows.

Did you not do these yet or are the rods in a different place?

Everything that can be used off the M are used on my rear suspension! A custom spring is highly recommended!

Those will be ready in a couple of months and will be a custom design since the M ones don't work. Be ready to spend $550+ for the pair!

No, right now I'm on the Eibach Pro Kit and Bilstein HDs. May be changing over to the AST shocks with custom rate springs. However, if I get the M3 arms, then I can get the ASTs with the M3 mounts instead.

The upper mounts are no different on the M3.

Let us know when you are ready for the AST's, there are a couple of choices and you must select the right spring rates for how the car will be used.

Sounds good. I think I'm going to stick out another season on this setup... I may jump onto the R-comp wagon mid season and work on my actual suspension setup over the upcoming winter for next season. Always good to keep up on things though.

They are TCK D/A Koni dampers.

Harold, have you tried using the BMW performance springs during ur testings?

Just wondering how they are compared to the ones u used (vogland, swift, etc)

No, I have not. During the R&D process I try to take advantage of light weight M3 lower camber link and take a step further by reducing coil spring weight by 2 lbs and optimize the spring rate for handling. At nearly 800 lb/in the car still has an excellent ride!

Intead of using a BMW performance spring for the 335i application, you may want to use one for the M3 if there is one or an M3 spec lowering spring.

I have the TCK D/A's too! What springs are you running? It's been a while but I'm pretty sure I settled on 500 front and 600 rear...

I'm drooling over the M3 suspension bits but I'm looking at houses now and my fiancee will castrate me if I spend any more on my cars... 335 and 2002tii...

I have forgelines as well (they are down the street from where I live). I'm assuming you know Dave, good guy, great wheels.

Swift, 400 fronts and 800 rears(will probably go up to 1000 after some more testing) with helpers and thrust sheets. TCK is great out of the box, but still left lots of room for improvement.

Harold, good to hear a customizable solution is coming.
Just had a closer look at the rear upper shock mounts, there is no signs of wear....Did you install them with large diamter washers? Using small washers will cause the shock to push or pull through the tower.

We are currently looking into damper manufactures(Koni, KW, and AST) that will customize dampers with proper valving for the spring rates we plan to run with our coil-over kits.

you guys should just develop an "M3" Package Upgrade for e9X 335i owners that will include bushings, control arms, etc.

hopefully it won't be too expensive :]

Are you talking about the large washer that goes between the shock itself, and the bushing? I believe it's part of the stock setup right? If so, yes, I reused all the stock parts. Will take a look again the next time I open it up.

Why are all the aluminum M3 arms/rods curved and the steel 335 parts straight? They both fit the 335 so it's not because other components are in the way. I would expect a straight part to be stronger, stiffer, easier to design, and easier to make. So why the curves?

thanks,
justin
