When I try to look for something new, I just don't see much out there that makes financial sense. I really like this car and I really like my GTI. I've looked at S5s and I've looked at Kia Stingers and I like those but I just can't bring myself to cut loose of $40k when i've got a better performing car that's paid for that I know how to do most of the maintenance on.

I've got a good lead on a really low mileage 986 boxster that I've got the cash set aside for. I'd planned to sell the 335 when I got the Porsche, but lately I've been thinking about keeping both...

Easy question! Sold mine two months ago, and never looked back. It is soooooooo nice being able to DRIVE the car, without having to constantly WORK ON the car! Still have my E46, but it will be my last BMW, unless someday I buy a nice 2002tii as a toy.

I'll probably never sell the IS, too special of a car. Same with my e30 but that's influenced by the emotional attachment of owning it for 10 years.

E34 if someone offers me more than 50% more than I paid it's theirs, but I do very much like that car too. I have a problem of buying cars without getting rid of any

Is there a support group for that? I'd like a membership card.

I wish I could buy just a normal car that I can part with easily, but all of them are somewhat special to me.

I believe Jay Leno once said that is you are a car guy and you park your car and when walking away from it, you don't turn back to look at it, you are driving the wrong car.

Mine is paid for, averages $80 a month to maintain and the manual transmission makes it fun to drive. Unless something major happens, I will keep it and enjoy rowing through the gears.

I think I fall into the consensus and plan on keeping the e90 4ever.

I just bought another e92 after my last one was totaled a few months back. I can't see buying anything else in the future now. I have to echo most of you in the fact that nothing else is appealing to me. All the new stuff is like driving a soulless robot. I had a 2020 330i xdrive last year as a loaner when my e92 was in for repair. It was OK but just felt lifeless. I am an audio nut so I have to get used to the subpar Logic7 system also now as this e92 came with the Harmon Kardon package. My last one I had a great system in with no iDrive (Focal speakers, Boston Acoustics sub with Kenwood and Soundstream amps). Honestly, if I were to buy another car it would be another e39. I just sold my old one last month because it had accumulated too many miles (318k) to justify the repairs it needed. The problem is, finding an e39 in decent shape for a reasonable price is nearly impossible now. That being said, BMW has seemingly lost their way on numerous fronts. The best of the breed, IMHO, has come from years past.

Same here. I had complete systems installed in all of my previous cars but I have to say I've been quite happy with the Logic7 (probably due to that I like to listen to all the sounds of my E92 over the previous cars though). A good EQ goes a long way. Give it a google search, there's a thread here somewhere with some EQ specs. I started with the one recommended for my specs and then tweaked it to my liking.

I may have to check that idea out. If I could find out what the Logic7 amp output and ohm rating was, I could probably just drop my Focals in and tune the system a bit. It wouldn't be perfect but it would be a start. Ive already had to replace one of the Harmon speakers as the last owner had every setting in the EQ to crazy bass overload.

There is a stereo sub forum here and there is a sticky on L7 settings
there.

https://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27

L7 does not have enough power per channel for most aftermarket speakers.

Audio? I rarely use mine because I'm too busy listening to the engine.

This is why I didn't even (originally) mention the 6MT 540i with a blown engine that I still have because I love that car and may fix it....honestly as I write this the thought of selling the e34 and using the money to make the 540 daily-able is becoming more attractive. I WOULD love the e34 but it's an auto and not really worth it to me to swap it

I'll keep my e92 as long as possible, just rowing through the gears and keeping it stock. No RWD manuals left for anything newer. It's still only at 70k miles so should last a long time yet!

I have my e30 as the weekend fun car & will eventually swap the driveline into a coupe shell I have in the shed after selling off a few parts to fund it.

I certainly plan to be the only owner of mine. And with barely 51K on it and climbing less than 2K a year, seems likely. Not like I can replace it.

Being a car guy, a true one, where you look at cars in a different way than a normal person. You look at it and see the imaginary cutaway pictures of it, the kind Road & Track and Motor Trend used to publish with new Ferrari and Corvette introductions. When you drive it, you see pistons moving up and down in their cylinders and crankshaft rotations, all in slow motion. You see the bearings turning in the wheel hubs, see the reluctor rings exciting the hall-effect sensors to develop a PWM signal that is fed to a body computer for the stability control system. You think about how the algorithm works for the oil life monitor system, and see the genius of an oil sensor that monitors oil contamination levels...

And if you are lucky like me, with a long daily commute on track-level backcountry roads that BMWs were bred for, you have an excuse to collect several BMWs to spread the miles over. Lucky, because your wife lets you tear out part of a mountain to build a garage in about the same cubic footage of the house you live in; and fill it with expensive tools all for the pursuit of DIY maintenance.

Then a life-altering change comes... your 175-mile commute drops to just 26 miles, just like a normal person's one. Suddenly, four BMWs appears as overkill. And what about the new, hot, Domestic 4X4 SUV (with a real manual transmission) you have on order since March 6th of 2020...

As long as we're "sharing".

LOL. Thank you for "sharing"!

I guess the above would the opposite on the scale of the conversation I've overheard at a service counter of an indy shop while I waited for my E91 to get aligned. It went like this (no exaggeration added!):
Customer: Hi, my BMW says I need service.
Service Manager: OK. Do you know what service you need?
Customer: Well, I think it needs an oil change and maybe you can check what else it says.
Service Manager: No problem, we'll book you in. What model is it?
Customer: Hmm, umm... something X. (walks over to the window to look at his BMW parked outside and comes back to the counter). It says Xi or 1, not sure.
Service Manager: OK, do you have an insurance card with a VIN? I can then look up the year as well.
Customer: Sure - (hands over the insurance card).

The BMW in question was an E84 X1.
The Service Manager surely smiled as it was going to be a good day in the accounting department.
