That isn't too far out of line when you consider it has average mileage for a 2.5-year-old car. Would be a PITA to get adequately insured. At a price that is more than double NADA I am not a buyer. Thanks for looking into their ask!

Nice and well sold, I’d say for the mileage.

Can I ask where/how you sourced the cloth/alcantera sport seats? You buy the whole seat or just the covers?

The thing is, these cars just aren’t a $40k driving experience or even a $20k IMO. They feel like a Buick compared to an E46 M3 which in most cases costs less. Actually you could probably make a an e46 m3 wagon for less than $15k and have ‘more’ car.

Rarity is a weird thing when it comes to a car like this. They need quite a few modifications to handle well and be ‘fun’. I’d say they’re better at being a reliable tank when stock more than anything else.

Good one, EAG.

The point of this car not being a $40k driving experience is spot on. The death of the manual transmission wagon has forced our hands as to how much we want to pay for that 3-pedal longroof experience.... at $30k I'd be very interested in seeing if the numbers work to sell mine (2011 6MT xdrive, 70k miles) and "trading up" but $40k just gives me a solid chuckle and dismisses the idea. For $40k I can get into a brand new manual Golf wagon and buy an E46 M3 to keep it company. Crazy.

Couldnt agree more - at 30-32k, people would be lining up for this rare spec/color combo. After owning two M-sport e91 6MT unicorns over the years, they are very underwhelming overall in terms of driving experience and performance vs MPG. Sacrifices made to have a manual long roof.

Sad part is, due to the supply and demand (and this car's super low miles), someone will undoubtedly pay the premium - they almost always do. End of the day, it keeps the EAG markup machine going...

I had a hard time paying a few grand more for my 45k mile 6mt a few months back. Worth it, but god $20k more than book value is asinine. Different strokes different folks.

EAG are auto enthusiasts scalpers. They have E30 M3 and E39 M5 with $100k asking prices.

And something for our Canadians friends:
http://wwwb.autotrader.ca/a/bmw/3 series/concord/ontario/5_37673208_20161121210600215

With the current exchange rate, it might be worth importing to the US.

Which is why I think transmission swaps and custom builds are the way to go, assuming you're not terribly concerned with resale value (I'm confident you will almost always be able to find a buyer). I got tired of not being able to find an E91 with the spec I wanted, so when I finally did, I purchased it without hesitation, even though it was an automatic.

Have you done the tranny swap yet? What other changes have you made?

I can't believe they are representing that as 'clean title,' I watched that one go at the auction a few weeks ago. It had oil leaks and 'total loss' salvage title. Looks like they just put some tire dressing on it and put it up for a 65% margin. Dealers like that make me crazy.

FCP Euro and ECS Tuning have always been great and quick shipping. FCP Euro is great if you plan on keeping the wagon for a while as you get lifetime warranty.

Evan and Jason at getbmwparts.com are great. I order from them whenever I can. Prices are reasonable and they're super quick to reply to email questions about any potential issues such as correct model year, fitment, etc...

ECS and Pelican are decent but I prefer to buy OEM when possible.

I could go either way on this but I ended up with a 6MT RWD M Sport.

It came down to a lack of time and actually coming across the right spec'ed lower mileage car. My garage already has an E36 halfway through an engine and trans swap that's been sitting for 2 years now. I wanted to do a Red pre-LCI E91 with an M3 front clip, and all the standard bolt on suspension and engine mods. With a $15k donor car, I calculated I'd be into it $30k once I did everything so I pulled the trigger on my unicorn. If you can do paintwork or have a cheap/free wreck you can pull parts from, building a car makes more sense otherwise the costs will stack up quickly and you may as well buy the car you want in the first place.

I completely agree that E9X cars are underwhelming from the factory. My stock E92 335i that I ordered was quick but didn't do much for me. My E91 has coilovers, non-runflats, m3 front sway bar, and camber plates which help it to handle correctly. It also has a PE, 3IM, and software. It's still not a performance car in the realm of an E46 M3 but it's a fantastic jack of all trades. It has enough room to road trip with my wife and 2 kids if I want, enough room for a Home Depot run, yet still drives like a proper BMW. It has 80% of the performance of an E46 M3 and 80% of the utility of an SUV. It's the perfect combination in my book. Yes, there are better handling and faster cars as well as vehicles with more cargo space but the E91 does both pretty damn well rolled up in one package.

Happy hunting everyone, I'm still secretly on the lookout for my red pre-LCI longroof

I actually was stuck in traffic today and over a couple of lanes was an LCI red E91. I don't recall ever seeing one in the flesh before, but it looked damn good. Kind of a breath of fresh air compared to the typical white, grey, silver, black, etc. Was tempted to ask the 60-something-year-old if he wanted to sell. Good luck with the search.

Agreed. I love my black E91 but some color would be nice.

The super low and wheels aren't my style but I love the rest!
