If somebody made a heatshield for the BMS DCI, I would buy it. I know Big Tom made one.

I am in the midst of custom fabbing a carbon fiber shield, if it works...maybe I will sell the design when Im done like Big Tom does for the intercooler. Thank Big Tom for supplying the pictures lol.

A shield is not effective when placed in that area, especially if made of metal. If you want a truly effective and cheap intake consider a Mr. 5-style one.

Sell the design just like Big Tom does?
I haven't earned a single penny on the so called "Big Tom IC"...
I've just bought and installed it, just like any customer could have done.

I meant sell it as Penn's heat shield. Not actually sell it, to help out the community man, jesus...chill. Carbon fiber would retard heat, the biggest thing that will help out your dci is the snorkel, the snorkel brings in fresh air and is the only REAL way to cool down the dci's. That or the use of methanol will help out IAT's. Once the dci's are heatsoaked they are heatsoaked. The carbon fiber will help slow the process. Im just trying to figure out how much its going to cost to make a carbon fiber one...its not gonna help that much, so cost will be a very big deal in this process.

Im working on it guys, I will keep you updated with my progress, as it has hit the back burner bc of my meth kit. We are trying to make multiple units but we came to the conclusion that they are going to have to be made custom for your car. There are far too many intake/chargepipe/dv/bov setups. The various holes and bends would not fit for all applications. Bummer...I do recommend using carbon fiber tho, as metal will indeed conduct heat and stay hot longer once the engine bay had been completely heatsoaked. Not a huge diff. but hey the little things add up when you have a little here and a little there...it all can add up to a sizable diff. in the end. Cheers! Go Steelers!!

+1, I would love to see the diff. b4 I spend all of this time and money...I would like to see the difference with and without after about 10 min. of hard driving(220-250F oil temps). I just think that the metal would actually give off more heat(with the shield) since they are so close to the dci's. Just my prediction...i think the results would differ with a carbon fiber(or less "heat conductive material") heat-shield. The theory is great, I am really interested in results bc ASR has an intake similar to the dci with a heat-shield but box is actually sealed. I really considered that intake b4 I saw the cost and that you had to use their chargepipe/bov....and of course their reputation...

EDIT: What a shitty half time show! And of course Aguilera would mess up the national anthem.

I don't think that will help. That 'shield' will become isothermal with the rest of the engine compartment so the air around it you're sucking in will get just as hot as without...my bet is it won't route any more cool air in either.

If that stock air duct can flow enough, then build an enclosure around the DCI so no air from the engine compartment gets sucked in.

Thats the goal, but would it be cheaper just to run the knock off gruppe m? IF it could flow enough to keep the turbos happy...

WTF are you on smart ass ? DCI -> TURBOS -> FMIC -> CHARGEPIPE(meth)-> Intake manifold , so meth is going to cool air that's already going to IM , how the fuck is it either the snorker or meth ?

Using a snorkel and/or meth are some of the best ways to keep IAT's down. I am currently not using a snorkel. Im testing a few things right now, my HPF exhaust comes in today!

I made one out of corigated plastic

It just wraps around the manifold and channels the air into that area. Less material the better. Open on the bottom.

No its not as pretty as big toms... but big tom inspired and effective. Intake temps are cooler, almost no added restriction, cones are cold to the touch, run after run after run and so is the strut bar. They used to get boiling hot.
