The previous E53 X5 not only experimented with the V12 from the BMW Le Mans racer but BMW also ran trials with the then current V12 in the X5. This is the time BMW owned and were still developing the Range Rover which BMW engineered to be equipped with a V12 and also an extended wheelbase model which we have seen for the first time within the Range Rover. At the time there were scoop photographs of extended X5s which were original mules for the intended X7 model. As of X5s with bulges and intakes on their bonnet indicating V12. The V12 was to up the luxury stakes against the then abysmal M-Klasse model which was universally criticised for its lack of premium and quality. Fitting a V12 in the X5 the universally praised and award winning X5 would take BMW into a higher class. Sadly it was not meant to be as was the X7. The first generation car was almost like an X5L , with the same outline and similar rear. At the front the car owed much to the 2001 E65 7er with similar lights and the same width of kidney grille. This artist impression at the time was the closest to how the car looked.

The X7 Concept could be shown this year. SCOTT probably knows more about. |
