MHD gauges on Idrive

I would like some input as to what is possible. I know there are several ways to mirror to the idrive screen. But what I want is a little different.

If I remember correctly (it's been a really long time since I messed with it) I can split my screen to show the radio info on the small side (right now my nav is in the small screen). And then hijack the larger portion of the split for the MHD gauges.

I have the CCC version, if it's not doable, could newer versions do it? Ie CIC

Nope.

You need an aftermarket replacement like the Android systems in order to manipulate anything on the display.

You would need cic at minimum as nothing was really supported on ccc to do it, then you could nav2tv or like the backup cam integration to get video to cic and use whatever for input you want.

Thanks for the reply.

At this point I am going to wait. If anything I'll just monitor using the Bluetooth adapter for my jb4. I'm not racing or anything, I just like to keep an eye on things. Mostly because I just finished a l pretty decent overhaul early this spring. It was by far the biggest project I've done on any of my cars. So I'm still paranoid.

Cheapest is a cheap android device on a mount with a BT adapter running the gauges.

Here is I think what you are looking for if you want to see what is involved and you can use basically whatever you want as the video source, this person did chromecast and then could wirelessly put whatever on the screen.

I'm basically planning on using an old android phone. I'd love to cast it to the idrive, if I could do it for under 100 bucks I'd be interested. But it looks like it's minimum twice that...

You can install a multimedia interface with picture-in-picture capability. I had this unit in my car when I still had a CCC, although I never used the AV inputs - I just used it for rear view camera. It supports displaying your video signal on just the left 2/3 of the screen, which sounds like what you're trying to do.

It just accepts an RCA signal though. You still need a smartphone mirroring device such as this one to go with it.

It's not cheap, none of these MMI boxes are because the CCC/CIC/etc do not accept any video inputs so the signal has to be intercepted between the headunit and the screen. It looks to be about $300 if you buy both units and install them yourself.
