So I'm kind of kicking myself because my long term plan was to do a N54 swap in an E91 and one just popped up near me lol! However, I already bought an E91 two weeks ago. So I'm sharing this for anyone looking to buy a relatively low cost already N54-swapped E91! I do not know the owner or the maintenance on it so may need to verify if done correctly.

so weird...seems like people don't want to sell their cars when they have it listed up.

I'm a cash buyer, local, and willing to pay asking price for that high mileage preLCI 6MT e91 that was listed on bmwcca, but the guy doesn't answer his phone. I email him and he responds two days later saying oh, I'm going to wait for it to get published in the Roundel Magazine then i'll start showing it. I'm like, I'm willing to buy it now and take it off your hands and then he says i might be buying another car in 2-3 weeks and he wants to wait until then (even though it isn't his daily).

Then the other high mileage autotrader ad that someone else posted shortly after. That car been on sale forever and no one bought it. It is high mileage, non sport, halogen headlights, base everything, cosmetic damage, radio doesn't work and he had it listed for months. He was asking 12k, then 11k, then bottom line 10k. Then 9.5k then 9, then 8 and the lowest was 7k. Now it reappears at 8k on autotrader and I wanted to make a solid offer, then he says no it's on hold for someone else and they're paying full asking price so if I want it, i'd have to offer significantly more than his list price.

Like wth is going on?

That’s super strange man! I think Corona virus put a serious dent in the used car market so maybe they’re a little sketched out still. To be honest, I don’t like selling my cars either but that’s just bad business to not follow through if a buyer is interested.

I just sold my 2009 E91 slightly below ask and my 2007 is still up for sale. Not quite local to you but less miles and lower price than that blue one. PM if you’re interested.

Thanks for the offer, Washington is too far for me.

And yes, it does seem weird. You’d think if they’d list a car they would want to sell it...

Well, I bought cars sight unseen from PA, NC and FL when I lived in OH. Then bought an e91 from CA while living here in south FL. My attitude is I will turn it over immediately if there is a major problem. Especially with BMW wagons they are tough to find with desirable spec and sell quickly.

For what it is worth, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of @biggns cars. If you look over his posts you'll see he is thoughtful and thorough with his maintenance and upgrades.

I've also bought a couple cars sight unseen. One was an ok experience, but my most recent one was horrible. Horrible to the point where I wouldn't do it ever again. I couldn't even flip it and it was an e91 6MT RWD...eventually it was total lossed due to it being rusted so bad that I hit a modest dip and the whole front drive train fell apart due to the rust. Prior to that both rear springs snapped due to rust as well. It was actually a blessing that the whole front had all that damage while I was driving it as I was able to make an insurance claim and they deemed it a total loss because arms broke, axel popped out, bolts sheared off, paint, wheel, tire, etc...

Off of that experience alone, my wife wouldn't green light me buying another one sight unseen. Oh and dealing with autoshipper brokers and stuff was a pain too.

Yeah it was bad. The car was from Vermont and it was a dealership. I didn't lose too much as it was listed for 5k and I got it down to 4400. Shipping was 1400 and tax, fees, etc. I was at about 6300 to have it fully registered in California.

They delivered the car at night too. Super late. Like 11:00 pm at night, it looked ok at night, but the next morning omg. The worst was the tailgate, it was rusted so bad, it had a hole on the inner side of it the size of a tennis ball. I took pictures of that and sent it to the dealer and they offered to refund me $250 for a new tailgate (average price on eBay).

The car was a sport package so I didn't plan on lowering it, but the rear springs snapped like a month of daily driving after I bought the car. Ok, i'll bought some H&R springs and was going to install. It took like over a week to install with my schedule because every bolt was rusted. Bolts snapping off like crazy. I have never had to extract so many bolts in my life on one job. Had to get all new bolts and reinstalled, but I knew there were other issues as a majority of the suspension components were rusted too.

I could not sell the car. No one would buy it. Not even at any price. I had to disclose it was an East Coast car and that ended any sale. The rust ended every sale too. I just took the L and decided to just drive it until the wheels fall off and it literally did. I couldn't claim insurance from rust or anything like that, but when I hit that dip and the whole front end/suspension rusted apart/popped out axles/shearing bolts/cracking subframe, I thought it was over, but then realized I was driving it at the time and it was a potential insurance claim. Adjuster came out and didn't mention anything about the rust, but just saw that the axle popped out, tire deflated, damage to rim, underbody splash shield was gone, cracked subframe, damage to front bumper and paint, it got to the point where they deemed it a total loss. A blessing in disguise really.

What a disaster. A PPI is worth every dollar, whether you end up buying the car or not.

Not an E91, but still a unicorn. Only 45 Msport 6MT E61s per Sickfinga. Too bad this one’s been in an accident. Looks clean on those Alpina reps!

Odd but keep at it, really not the type of car the aging BMWCCA audience goes for. Aside from Covid I do understand showing any resistance to an early sale

He seems to be an elitest. He paid for the BMWCCA membership kept asking me if I was a PAID member. He doesn't want to show it to any other audiences and he paid to have it published in the next Roundel magazine, like he wants the copy to show people who are viewing the car that it's in the Roundel magazine.

I'm still on the search. Good thing I have an extra e91 (albeit it's my wife's current daily and an automatic) and an e90 I'm currently driving until I find a replacement 6MT e91.

Oh an an update on the post of the sparkling graphite e91 6MT guy, he responded to me on his offer up listing, the same listing that went unsold for like 4 months and dropped all the way down to 7k still with no bites. Upon messaging him, he's a straight up liar lol. Like who does that? He says yeah, it's still up for sale, but not at 7k anymore, but he's asking 8k or more and keeps saying someone has a 8k offer but he's standing firm to see if anyone can beat it (although he's asking 8k obo on autotrader, but he doesn't know that I see it listed on autotrader).

He says yeah these are are unicorns and they go for a lot. I inform him that im an e91 enthusiast with various builds and oem m3 front end conversions and 3SIM and such and how I do all the work myself. I told him it's a rare car, but the color is a turn off for me and he tries to sell me on the color like its a sought out after color. Then I tell him, it's an xi which is less appealing than a rwd and he argues with me saying that the xi is superior and people pay more for it. Then I tell him it has HALOGEN headlights, then he says halogens are more convenient and easier and cheaper to replace than xenon. OMG then he says he has wheels and tires that go for x amount by themselves which are ugly cheap replica wheels.

oh and then he says car has some nagging problems but he thinks he fixed it like a misfire that keeps coming back but his fix was replacing each coil one by one and now they're all new. I said it could be the crankshaft position sensor or injectors and he says he doesn't think so even after I told him I had similar issues like his with my other e91.

For fun I asked him if the waterpump/ts was replaced (i already knew it was based on the BAT auction description) and he says yeah he did it himself and it was a pain in the ass. Clearly a lie as the BAT seller had receipts saying that it was already done. Says the car was always a California car, but the VIN shows that it was registered in the East Coast at one point.

That guy is clearly delusional and he messaged me it's sold on offerup, but yet it's still on autotrader and being updated and new pics added and it looks like it's clearly still for sale.

Nobody paying over 8k for that high mileage base e91 xi with all those potential problems and an owner that blatantly lies. It was evident enough that it couldn't even sell on offerup for 7k.
