I've had a 330d LCI with the N57 for nearly 5 years. The car has wanted for nothing and has been modified with Koni Yellow dampers, Eibach pro-line springs, M359s with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s and remapped from 224whp/384 ft/lb at the wheels to 290whp and 450 ft/lb at the wheels along with xHP stage 2.

I've just bought a 2015 435d Gran Coupe with the M Sport Plus package which adds 19 inch wheels and the M Performance brakes amongst other items.

On a back to back drive, the first thing I've noticed is the ride and connection with the road in the 435d is vastly different and much more removed. The E90 has a raw feel and the steering is weighted with a real sense of grip. In comparison, the 435d feels like it will grip but isn't as confidence inspiring. I'm putting this down to the stock suspension which is SE spec on the X Drive and the run flats.

In terms of performance, the 435d is very quick off of the mark and has a very progressive build up of speed. There's also quite a nice noise although this may be the active sound enhancing the acoustics. In terms of overall performance, the 330d is definitely quicker once remapped. The 435d has a split second lag in throttle which I often see referred to as "throttle tip in", the 330d is instantaneous, again I put this down to the remap. The 330d has a real surge in power in comparison to the 435d's progression, likely down to the single versus twin turbo setup.

The 330d is a great car and driving it again today after a week reminded me how great it is. That said, the 435d is very close behind from a performance perspective but significantly ahead from an all round car perspective when considering the technology advancements alongside the fact that the 435d is a much stronger baseline to start from. I can't wait to see how it performs once it's had an intercooler, ACS springs, new wheels and tyres fitted and been remapped!

I went from E91 to F31. Didn't like it half as much as the E91, so I'm back in an E90 now. Love the tech in the F3*, but the way it drives isn't a patch on the E9*.

This.

Matt and I have discussed this offline and were both in agreement on the matter.

I went from E90 335i SE to F31 340i M Sport and didn't sell the E90 immediately. The newer car is more refined, yet much less fun to drive. I ended up selling the 340i and keeping the 335i for a little while longer.

The 435d with a remap would obliterate the old car. They are rather quick.

This.

I feel like if with the newer cars, if you don't get the M the driving feel isn't nearly as good.
