Found this comment on a developers forum:

"The yellow wire provides power to the clock and the memory. Nothing more. If you want the memory to be written down to NAND, you can set this in factory settings. Not a bad little hack for those who don't fancy wiring in the yellow wire, but then you might find the deep sleep function is erratic. The clock will still be lost as well, so you'll need that to update either via NTP or GPS. I believe the power consumption is around 10mA."

I think I will install a fan/heatsink while I'm at it as there are many reports of Chinese android units overheating in warmer climates.

Tapped the door lock fuse for permanent +12V. Weird bootup problem now fixed.

Added a heatsink and a fan powered off the accessory wire..

True it would be nice but I use the steering wheel controls anyway.

I guess if you were connecting this to a dsp through spdif it wouldn't matter, most come with a volume knob. But I wonder if you can diy your own volume knob some how.

I agree. A volume knob is what I miss most.

U can always use a volume app. I have one on the android device in my 5series. Touch on a side a swipe up or down. Instant adjustment

Also you can use an after market volume knob, it will go in-between the rca from the radio and amp and run the wire anywhere u like in the cab and adjust how you would a normal knob.

So I was still waiting for my 10.25 inch screen and it never came. Seller sent bogus tracking info that was consistantly saying it was still in china being shipped. Reported to paypal got a refund. But I'm glad since I have changed my mind and want to go smaller. Think it'll look better to me to have it look somewhat factory. Plus I can put my 3d printer to work some more.

Good choice. I find the 8.8" just the right size.
Here's the new single piece backplate I ended up making out of 2mm ABS plastic.
Alternatively with a 3D printer you could recess the face further into the dash to give it a more OEM-looking flush look.

Yeah that's the plan.. you did a great job though. I wanted the big screen. But bigger isn't always better. (Said no woman ever)

That looks great! Was going to attempt the same to my sons car. Do you have any templates for the panel etc you would share?

What did you use for the wireless charger in place of the bottom flap?

Also, would there be anything you would of done differently now going through it all?

Thanks

I've since updated my unit to the latest Joying 8.8" unit which has a more dependable wifi/bluetooth/Apple Carplay. I didnt fit a fan or internal heatsink to the replacement (will see how it goes over summer), but kept the ventilated top panel. Added extra magnets to secure the HVAC more firmly. Sorry I didnt make any templates.

The wireless charger was this

as described by this guy

Well done!! This is going to be a project for my sons car as its the most cleanest and most practical install i have seen on the e9x.

Especially utilising the wireless charger as using the Waze or Google Maps always is a drain on the battery.

Thanks for your input to the forum.

Android 10.25

Sssso this thing has been sitting in my basement closet since yeast year. And finally decided to give it a go. Then realized I wasn't sent the correct harness for the e92. So now I must wait. But with all the back n forth with debating on the 8.8 vs. the 10.25... Even after buying and returning the 8.8. I'm kinda glad I went with the 10.25. of course it doesn't look like it belongs, but that's part of the appeal. I will need to figure out a way to make it flow.. 3D print some proper clips to fix the offset that it has due to the e9x dash drivers orientation. And it should be good to go. 🤷🏽*♂️
