Solid LED on K+DCAN cable

I bought a cable from OBD innovations to use with BMWLogger S/W. Plugging it in to either the USB port on my laptop OR the OBD port the LED light goes immediately solid.
I think when I first plugged it in it flashed. So I'm wondering if the LED should be now solid all the time when plugged in.

Thoughts?

The led light on my cable stays on for a bit but then turns off regardless to where I have it plugged in (car or pc).

Seeing the screenshot however, I can tell you that the correct drivers haven't been installed. You'll need to sort that out first. FT232R USB UART needs to be recognized as usb device host/controller and show up under Ports category.

dj_aj: Thanks. Yeah, i knew the drivers weren't installed. I was just confused about the LED being lit when the drivers weren't installed. I would think if drivers weren't installed the cable would not be unrecognized therefore how would it know to light the LED. I'm guessing though its a physcial connection off a 5V line?

Yep. That led indicator is powered through the usb port. It'll also light up when you plug it into the OBD port, without it being connected at the other end.

If you doubleclick on the device as you have it in your picture above in device manager.
Then go to the "Details" tab, you will see: "Device instance Id"
Please copy & paste the string listed in your next reply (You can click on it and press CTRL+C to copy)
Also please let us know what driver version you are using.

Hansson, Thanks. The LED is lit from the 5v off the laptop (that was my OP). The "device" is showing up due to no drivers being installed and Windows doesn't know what to do with it. Thanks for helping to solve.
