N54 335i Crackling / Ticking / Knocking Engine

Hi,
I have this noise every morning:

No noise when the engine is warm, I really appreciate your feedback.

I've had similar noise from the injectors at -40 on cold start. Not sure what yours is could be injectors or valve train. No codes no problems. If you have codes look into it.

I'm 90% that sound comes from belt and the tensioner. The belt is making that noise because the tensioner's spring may be worn-out.

This was my case, you could give it a try.

Could be one of the belts at the front slipping, leak from oil filter housing getting on it. Mine sounded similar

E90 335i Manufactured in Sep 2006 Automatic Transmition
Well maintained, no modifications, no aftermarket parts,mileage is 110,600 mile
oil used Mobil1 0w-40, petrol used 98 octane.

I will take it for inspection to see if there are any codes

thanks for your feedback, I wish the problem in the tensioners not the hydraulic lifters or something inside the engine.

I will give it a try for sure

there is a small leak in the filter housing,
does the noise disappear after 20-30 seconds in your case ?
in my case, the noise is gone when the car is warm.

If you're feeling up to it remove the belt and start the car and see if it goes away.

I have replaced the Belt Tensioner along with the BELT back in June 2013,, it is this part:
Mfg Part# 11287563927 Tensioner Picture attached
Mfg Part# 11287628652 Belt

do you think it is the problem ? bad part or bad installation maybe ?
or like what @Mixmaster suggested,, a slipping belt from the filter housing oil leak ?

I have to remove the belt and wait until the engine is cold to see if the noise from the Tensioner or from the engine itself.

so instead of removing the belt and start the car, I could try to pour water on the belt to see if I have belt squeal or belt chirp*

*chirp: a short, sharp, high-pitched sound.

Sounds like an injector or lifter. Both are resolved as the car warms. Check the injector by removing the engine cover and starting the vehicle . Try to pinpoint which cylinder it could be coming from as quickly as you can. Then turn the car off. Remove the plugs and see if any are wet, or are fouled with black soot on one of the electrodes. If yes, then your injector's spray pattern is hitting your plug and temporarily fouling it until it starts to warm up and spray correctly . If it is your lifter(s) then with the cover off you will hear the area of the cylinder 1-6 it could be. A lighter weight (0- weight) oil could help as well as a heating element in the garage or installed on the car.

It seems that I have a belt chirp issue, the belt and the tensioner are new though,

Check the video and see how the sound is gone:

Problem solved !
I’ve replaced the following parts:

Part# 11287563927 Tensioner
Part# 11287628652 Belt
Part# 11287557851 Lower Idler Pulley
Part# 11287556251 Upper Idler Pulley

What Brand did you buy and from where....did you DIY or had a shop do it?

kinda sounds like a bearing/pulley. Hopefully not the alternator. Judging by how instant the noise stopped when the water hit the alternator pulley could be there. Take the belt off and try spinning the pulleys by hand they should roll with essentially no resistance exempt for accessory pulleys. Try rotating the alternator next time the noise returns.
