So, my car says my transmission oil has aged past lifetime?
Thanks to the nice folks at BMWhat for helping me out with this.
I use BMWhat to check and clear codes. I've been getting a transmission code which they could not identify in their database. Reached out to them, they tracked down a thread (in Russian) which suggests there is a warning code that your transmission oil has aged past "lifetime". http://translate.google.de/translate...78&prev=search I had to translate the link back to English, but the discussion indicates the conclusion above. I know internet threads are not definitive proof, but thought I should share this The app reported code 578E, unknown. The warning kind of makes sense since I'm well past 100k miles. Haven't been able to clear the code though. |

yeah me neither. I've changed it twice, still need to change the filter.
Wish I could clear it, can't with BMWhat at least. |

Hmmm......so you have a Bluetooth module.
Not sure if this will work but try downloading bmwloger free version. It can look up DME and clear them. But if it doesn't work, invest in a USB to OBDII cable from eBay for $20. Then might also look into getting real BMW diagnostic software for free from internet. DN |

I have that software as well, but it only sees the DME, unless something has changed recently. BMWhat sees many other modules. I bought it a few months ago to diagnose an ABS sensor issue.
I've found that my car will throw other warning codes such as the transmission one: I don't use my brake sensors, so the car will throw a code, saying ... 'your mileage since resetting brake sensor does not make sense given the indicated wear' At least the BMWhat app saw the transmission code, which is good. |
