Radio
Hello;
My original radio makes a loud crackling sound. I picked up another radio and installed it (standard AM/FM/CD, professional non H/Def). However, everything worked (noise was gone) except for the volume. It was only adjusted to a low volume. The place where I bought the radio said I might need a H/D. My radio does not play H-def stations. How can you tell if the radio is a high-def. The other possibility was the radio should be coded to the car? What is this, and is it necessary for an OEM replacement radio to work. Thank you. Paul |

There are three sound systems
There are three sound systems
And the radio output has to be programmed to output the right level or type signal for each. Stereo = no amp the HU powers the speakers. Hi Fi = the radio outputs low level 5 volt pre amp signals to the Hi Fi amp. L7 or top Hi Fi the radio outputs and optical signal to the L7 amp. L7 is also called Top Hi Fi or Harmon Kardon sometimes. a 08 US car will either be Hi Fi or L7 that does not mean the new radio is programmed to either of those. Check for a Black amp in the trunk to see if you have the Hi Fi system. Whats a H/D ? Thanks. I looked at the Amplifier, it states E90, PL2 HI-FI Verst. 65.12 HV 9143156. Lear.
The radio states a Professional model. No Hi-Def. What radio (BMW OEM) must I purchase? How do you program the radio to the Amp? Thank you very much. Paul |

You need to find a coder in LA
You need to find a coder in LA or .
Sometimes and Indy can do this with Autologic. Or some Indys have the BMW factory programmers . Some have gone to a dealer to have it done. You might have to find a code with an ICOMB interface. You use to be able to program the radio with a simple coding cable in the early model years of the e90 . While your at is make sure the Radio is coded your options like PDC, USB , Ipod, BMW sos if you have those. See the coding sub forum. http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27 |

Thnk you very much. I am tryting to avoid the dealer....KacHING$$!!
I suppose there is no way to do this through the radio yourself? Inone of the pdg files (reference in your ast post), it talks abut coding and it will be regferenced in the "System Architecture section" which I never did locate? What if by change I fine the exact serial match on a new radio, dows it sttill need to be coded? On the serial numbers do you know if the VD number must match or all of them? I did find one with the same 6512-9178860-02 number but the VD number was different. Thank you again. Paul |

You would need to find a radio from a car with matching
You would need to find a radio from a car with matching audio options.
Because the Pro Radio is generic in any given year they program it up for what kind of sound system that is in the car . It can handle any of them. So its the VO option number you have to match. There are a lot of coders in LA someone might be able to do it for you. option number 676 is hifi for 09 an earlier. There are some coders that offer a remote coding service but they either have to supply you with a coding cable you hook to your PC or you have to buy one . (and download the software) You might inquire at Bimmertech also.( they are an OEM retrofitting company. See bmwcoders.com or http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=368 from the above http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ght=Los+Angles Last edited by ctuna; 04-13-2015 at 02:33 PM.. |

Hello;
Thank you for this information (sorry for the typo's in my last message). What is "option number 676, for hi-fi mean? Did you mean the "VD" number (not a VO number). I don't know what the VO would be. The VD number on the radio I have (that does not work well) is VD102781073056. Thanks again. |

The VO Vehicle Order number is a list of options for the car.
The VO Vehicle Order number is a list of options for the car.
If you plug your Vin Code into one of the BMW Vin checker some of the them will print the VO numbers out . When they set up the car they select which VO codes go in it that sets up the programmable functions according to what hardware is in the car to customize some of the functions. If you go down to the s6xx section in the following list you will see the audio options http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=717103 |

I would like to invest in the software and INKA cable so I can do these things myself. I had to pay a rediclous amount to have my new battery registered in my other car (E60, 09' 528i sport). I did see somewhere in your threads the software/cable...I'll need to search again.
Thanks. |

Start reading the posts in the Coding subforum.
Start reading the posts in the Coding subforum.
and at bmwcoders.com I would start tracking down somewhere to download the software on the coding sites. The place to buy the preferred cable is mentioned on the coding subforum. A coding setup will give you diagnostic ability to. Although it won't fix your radio problem bmwhat is great for simple programming and diagnostics to. It can do battery registration now to. Its limited to whatever canned programs the developer puts in |

Hello;
I thought I would let you know that I bought another used radio for my car. Except for the last for digits of the VD number all of the serial numbers matched. I installed it, did nothing else and it works great! Perhaps because the radio serial 6512 # was the same it worked. Anyway, I thought I would let you know. Also, I did bring my car back to my local BMW dealer (I called them again about this), they looked at the radio (original one) and said the 2008 and later models do not have a unlock code. Earlier models do. Thanks again for your assistance. I appreciate it. |

We don't care about Radio Station's that are on the other side of the World
when the transmitting Radius is maybe 30 miles. So quit being delusional and publishing stuff about it. FM is pretty much dead here and so is AM. Your comment is so off topic for this thread. Last edited by ctuna; 11-11-2022 at 11:21 AM.. |
