Correct me if I am wrong but don't water pumps usually go out around 75k?

My water pump is still going strong past 100,000km, but OFH is leaking again around the o-rings and somewhere near the back after the last replacement some 20,000km ago.
Seriously, why can't they just fucken use a traditional spin on metal cainster filter that spins directly onto the engine block (like my Skyline), never had a leak issue like these shitty o-rings/gaskets crap. Also diff oil change probably every 100,000km? (BMW says it's filled for life... yeah right). And power steering every couple of years? I changed mine recently and the old fulid looked pretty shit. Brake flush/change every 2 years.

Coolant every 4 years
I would probably throw in radiator hoses on the list. Seems like the plastic flanges like to get brittle over time or the rubber hoses perish/go soft even after just 7 years.

Good thread Socket.
I would suggest doing thermostat at same time as water pump to save on labour costs. For those people thinking OMG i havent changed my waterpump/solenoids/injectors/coils etc and I'm at XXX km, make sure you weigh up the cost of 'over-servicing' vs your inconvenience if they did happen to go out on you. Not saying you shouldn't do preventative maintenance, but a waterpump could go bad at 40k or 140k so if you kept changing at 75k then you could be wasting money if your pump would actually last much longer than that. Bit of a gamble i know, but unless you can't afford to have your car off the road for a few days, or you have a money tree in the backyard (if you do, come i come over for a beer?) then don't fix what ain't broke imo. ***This comment does not apply to fluids! :P |

If we can add OEM part #'s for all these replacement parts, it would be a tremendous help

do spark plugs really need to be changed every 20k I bought my car with 80k on original plugs. I think the generally accepted plug interval in the states is 45k miles. (maybe different if tuned but i still think 20k is excessive maybe 40k is more appropriate? interested in what others think)
same with coilpacks at 90k now still original coils. Also injectors don't need to be changed if there is nothing wrong with them and with the latest index injectors the leaking issue has been fixed. a bottle of injector cleaner on the tank of fuel before every service is what I do. walnut blast at 40k is also excessive (unless you can do it yourself) 70-80k is what's generally accepted. |

Because the coils are inserted deep down into the head of the engine, and our motors run rather hot this is a factor as to what kills them (remind same of the nissan RB26 with the same coil design and consequently suffer from the same issue) and these motors also eat plugs |

Depends on the car, but have seen cars as low as 60k kms have big lumps of carbon on the valves. I'll be doing another walnut blast this year to mine. So far its been 7 months and 20k on the car, will be interesting to see what kind of build up there is.
