335i rear end wiggle under hard acceleration
When gettin it from low speeds the rear feels like it slides or pushes to the left a little like it loses traction, but I'm thinking it may be the symptom of something worn out like a wheel bearing or RTAB. Has 70k on it.
Anyone have similar experience and fixed it so you can tell me what to check? Thanks!

Is it common to break traction just accelerating? I don't hear any squealing.

If still running stock subframe bushings this is most likely the culprit. Lots of talk on here regarding solutions and different options

If you're tuned, you can break traction like this in 1st and 2nd easily if you disable traction control. No squealing or anything. Soft bushings don't help, however.

Man mines tuned and runs well but never really broke traction from a standing start 1st or second. I run 265s so decent rubber but the car doesn't really break traction, peehaps a slight chirp sometimes, think something is wrong the way people go on about lighting up tyres all the way into third mine just doesn't.

I break traction all the time. I often drive with the DSC off as it kills the throttle to regain control when I am flooring it to merge on the varied and dangerous on-ramps in Los Angeles.
I really should have gotten better tires and wheels when I tuned my car.

Mine does the same thing. No tire squealing and no DCS light so I'm fairly certain I'm not losing any traction. Tires are mid-life Pilot Super Sports and seem fine.
So yea, it almost feels like torque steer, but in a RWD. Very odd sensation that requires some steering adjustments to keep it straight. |

That's my biggest complaint with this car so far from a power perspective.
The rear end shuffles around WOT and the road ruts can amplify it.

If you have 70k and have never replaced the shocks and struts, that could be the issue because the older shocks are not pressing the rear end to the ground firmly anymore. The upper, upper and lower upper shock mounts are worn out as well contributing to the problem.
Bushings is also another issue you should look at. |

So I've come to the conclusion that this is somewhat normal given the mileage and fact that it's a manual without LSD probably makes it more obvious than an automatic would. I'm sure rear bushings are just showing their age. I'll get it looked at sometime soon.
Thanks for all the replies.

Had the same problem with my old E60 M5 (with stock LSD) ... all had to do with 3/4 worn rear Pilot Sports (295/30/19). After a fresh set of new rear tires, the rear end squiggle on hard acceleration was gone ... then came back again after 8000 miles when it was time to change rear tires again.

Haha its definitely off, it still feels fast it just doesnt break loose like people talk about in here. It was the same with the stock runflats and hasnt changed since going tuned, though i also upgraded my tyres to 265 non rfts.

Had mine at an Indy for the exact same thing. Thought it was the bushings. The owner, who also drives competitively, took it out and said it was losing traction. All suspension, bushings etc. were not the culprit. The culprit was 350 hp to the wheels with only 255s for meat.

It's not one wheel drive. It has an e-diff, which has been shown to be just as effective as an LSD in shifting power between the wheels. However, extended use is where differences start to show: in increased brake pad wear and brakes overheating.

This is more directly about the e9x e-diff:
http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...electronic-LSD Edit: upon further research, it seems they added the e-diff on LCI E9X's.
