N54 intake manifold

Finally the manifold is installed.
Without the tune idle was unstable. With tune from Bob (BPC) engine is smooth but I didn’t have chance to test it on the road. I will take it to dyno soon.

TB is pointing down causing problem with airbox connection.

Air hose needs some improvement.

N54 pressure sensor has different connector. Sensor from original manifold must be used.

Is this a thing now? What are the benefits? First I've heard of someone doing this.

Thats actually a MAP sensor - aside from the connector, the N54 sensor is designed to read boost pressure (probably 3-4 bar) while the N52 reads atmospheric (1 bar). Either way, N52 sensor must be used.

I do see that BPC is on to swapping n54 but care to summarize what is the benefit of n54 manifold?Smoother power band due to no disa engagements?

Benefit is in short runners resultinh in power gain i higher RPM but loosing torque in lower RPM.

Ah. I see. Interested to see results, but I will leave this alone. I enjoy my torque.

However, very curious to see what the curve looks like.

Disclaimer: future BPC customer, and avid fan of Bob's, but the 3 stage manifold with ALFA N is just as powerful in the high RPM region as the n54 manifold. The N54's benefit is simplicity, and the potential for high rpm power with N2o, Boost, and cams. For everyone else, the 3 stage manifold is superior.

Hi,just checking in on how the intake swap was and if your still running nitrous with this combo? Also looks like there are additional mods that must be done with this? Care to share? I also have thought about the swap only because I'm worried I may not be getting the full power of the nitrous,it's going on my 3stage,to many paths to run,and since it was just a bolt on, there was no tune yet,I have other mods before I tune it all. Thanks for some info on this

I will run nitrous but Iím not finished with the intake pipe (waiting for parts). You have to tune software for the manifold. I have tune from Bob @ BPC. I was expecting loss of torque at low RPMs but itís not bad. I will take it to dyno when Iím finished.

yea, if you race your car the N54 would be a better fit once you put in a higher gear as well, you just need to stay in the upper rpm power band.

the 3 stage is still going to be the one for 85% of ppl. i cant wait for a set of cams to come out.

cams + headers + manifold/tune should be 50rwhp or so.

And you wonder why BobBPC hasn't updated his post . You know he's been promoting the n54 intake swap which so far, with dynos, have proven to make more horsepower than the 3stage and yet you continue to tout the "3 stage is a superior manifold in every regard."

We get it you're a fan of the 3stage enough already.

If you look at the dyno sheets he did both the n54 and the 3 stage IM. So I don't know where you concluded he's promoting only the n54 intake manifold.

Shhhhh

are you sure the N54 runners are larger? I'm pretty sure the N54 head has smaller intake ports than the N52. I'm thinking they're actually about the same size as the N52 runners.

Nevertheless, I agree that the 3 stage manifold is "better" in most cases.

This seems like a good idea,in our situation being na,it looks like a hassle. The air cleaner is a whole other nightmare which isn't mentioned. I guess it could be fun on the highway

Let me know before you run the N02, I would need to pull some timing out of that tune so you dont blow up your nice new intake.

I like both intakes, N54 is great for the track and the 3 stage is great on the street.

I rereading your intro post and saw that you can make an intake pipe for this setup. I was trying to figure out if I can run a n54 charge pipe to the front of the lower grill to make a cold air affect.i haven't been under to check it out,but were the intercooler would be,why not put an air cleaner there? There is a company who make a kit for the mm,its a twin of course, but same idea. The only drawback on this is the charge pipes has way to many holes for and no map sensor, this only an idea as I don't have tig welding skills to make this. What else do you have in mind? I haven't been on your site to snoop around, will this be offered as a kit minus the manifold? And by the way,did you just mention n52 turbo project???

Yes, the pipe will be sold on its own or with a tune. And yes, turbo kit is coming soon.
