can dealer replace interior trim?
wondering if the dealer can replace oem trim on the car.. there's a coupe that at the dealeer with most of the options i want except it has aluminum trim instead of grey poplar.. i;ve been hearing bad stories about aluminum getting dinged up easily and i don't want to deal with it.. i could order the car exactly like i want it but i don't feel like waiting for 8 weeks.. can the dealer replace the aluminum to poplar at the dealership before i take the car? i may try to include that in my negotiations if possible..

Of course they can but it's up to them if they are interested to do it. I've had the aluminium trim for just over a year on mine and not a mark on it. I use my car every day and have two little kids. The only area it gets belted up IF YOU LET IT is where the seat belt tounge gets flicked into it. There is a slider on the belt that when adjusted properly wont make the tounge hit the trim. Mine has never touched.

Yeah, they will replace it for you, but it's gonna cost something fierce.

FWIW I support your choice of dark poplar, and I dislike the aluminum but not because of some misguided notions of fragility. One year after purchase the trim looks brand new FWIW. However the Aluminum trim is horribly played out and boring. It's in everything now from Kia's to Mercedes... Blech

i was in the same situation when i got my 1st BMW, and they swapped the trim for free. BUT it was an e46 coupe, not as much trim in that body style. its worth a shot, if they are having a hard time moving the car they will do it. just gotta find a motivated CA that knows how to work his technicians.

I have done a trim swap for a E92. It took about 35mins but the cost was pretty expensive. Dealers are less likely to swap trim from one car to another nowadays because of liabilities that correspond to MSRP options. You can do what ever you want to the trim after the purchase.
