Needed: Head Up Display

I know I'm not the only one with this problem...I've read about it in a number of E90/92 reviews. When I set my seat and steering wheel up they way I like it, the steering wheel blocks my view of the speedometer and turn signals.

I know it's a huge investment to redesign a car's instrument panel and interior, so why not just add a head up display option to project speed and turn signals onto the window? For that matter, add the radio dial since I can't see it with my polarized sunglasses. (Have they fixed that yet?)

Please BMW, do this by the 2010 model year so I can consider another E92 when my current lease runs out!

The proper way to adjust the steering vertically is to move it up or down until it frames all the gauges without blocking them. If the wheel is blocking them it is not adjusted right......

It's not "just to add HUD", there's no room in the E9x-family for it.
And it comes at a premium too in the 5-series...

You would only consider leaseing or buying another one if they had hud. you need to move to MB

Move to MB? Why?

That's snotty. Why would I move to MB? I don't even like them. If I couldn't find some other brand of new car that I like (if you can fathom such a thing), I'd move to a CPO E46 coupe, like the one I had before my E92. That fit like a glove.

Ergonomics are important...I shouldn't have to crane my neck to see my turn signals and speedo. As far as the "proper" way to set my steering wheel, I'll set it the way that's most comfortable to ME, which happens to be low.

Forgive me for saying this, as I mean no offense, but isn't this akin to saying something along the lines of "I'm too stubborn to adapt to the car, so BMW should build it around me"? As far as I know, if you are seated properly and the wheel adjusted correctly, you should be able to see the dash, but as I do not know your physical build or body type, this is simply conjecture. The only personal reason I can see for having the wheel set low is so you can "drive" with your wrist in order to be "cool", like so many people seem to think. This type of "driving" is incredibly stupid and dangerous, but perhaps that's just the auto-x/track side of my mind talking.

But with all that said, a HUD would be an interesting option, although I don't know if it will happen any time soon for the 3-series. Perhaps a tilting dash would be a better solution? And while they're at it, make the darn wheel adjustment electronic, so it has memory settings. It seems a bit silly that a $40k-50k car still has manual steering wheel adjustments.

Not to keep arguing but...

I'm NOT saying that BMW should "build the car around me"...just pointing out that the way things are setup up is a problem for me, and I'm certainly not alone. A number of reviews have pointed out that the steering wheel blocks viewing of the dashboard.

A heads up display option would be a possible solution that would not affect other buyers who don't have the problem or don't want to pay for it.

I do think BMW has shown arrogance in the fact that it has not fixed the "radio goes blank with polarized sunglasses" problem, even though it has been pointed out many times. I never had this problem with any of the many cars I previously owned, including my E46.

I have to do the duck down to see if my signal lights are blinking. I use the triple flash function most of the time - so I know that the signal lights are blinking.

As for the speed - not enforced too strictly in Poland. If they start, I might have to find an option for knowing my speed.

I guess I listen to my stereo too loud - don't hear a thing when the signal is on.

You should be able to buy polarized/clear plastic to put over your LCDs that will change their polarity.... then you'll be able to see it with your sunglasses on.

I tried to google for an example without any luck. Maybe someone else can be more helpful.

I think the most annoying thing is the automatic wiper indicator. You can't see whether that light is on because its directly behind the steering wheel.

I think you need to adjust your seating position along with the steering wheel.
