Low Mileage E92 335is : Concerns?
I found an 2012 335is DCT with approx 14K mileage. Clean carfax. Carfax mentions maintenance history performed at dealer ( oil changes and maintenance checks) between 8k-13K mikes. No warning lights illuminated. Dry rotted tires and some other signs of wear do to element exposure.
Any advice? Is a low mileage e92 N54 better than an higher mileage? I'm aware of all the pitfalls of the N54. What should I check or look out for or use as an negotiating point. I thought of taking the Vin to a local dealer to check vehicle history. I greatly appreciate any insight. R.[IMG][/IMG] Last edited by scribbler11; 02-10-2019 at 07:35 PM.. |

14k Miles from 2012 with no maintenance history is not a good sign IMO... try to get some proof those miles are true.

Depending on price of course, buy it and don't look back. I miss mine everyday (had to sell because I moved to NYC for school) it is so much fun to drive and to be honest the maintenance wasn't that bad. I bought mine with 25k miles a year ago through auction and it was a gamble when I first got it but in the end I was so happy with my purchase. Also many of the bugs were sorted out on the N54 with the 335is, of course there will be normal wear and tear items. Good luck

As with any used car, it needs to be carefully and thoroughly inspected. A PPI by the right person or shop will find all the issues the car has. You don’t want any surprises after purchase.

What are you talking about not bean a good sign? It's only 14k miles. OP if you really want that car and it's a good price get it. There is nothing that can brake at that miles, it's not the 07-08 n54. I had 2 335, I drove one almost 50k and only water pump went bad at about 65k. Now I have another 335i I got it at 40k miles now at 50k and no problems and I beat on my cars a lot, street/track.

does it look like a 14 mile car? was it garaged? I am assuming 14K mile car should look brand new both exterior, interior and underbody. why dont you share some pictures. 2K miles per year is not impossible especially if the car is not a daily driver. I have an E46 M3 and put about 4K miles in three years.
As for maintenance, I think all the fluids should have been changed. get all maintenance records if possible. like others stated invest in a PPI.

Uploaded pics. Interior is immaculate except for the drivers seat is shows some age. Front bumper underneath is scrapped pretty bad and a few other spots could use some love. I just don't want to be blinded by the mileage. Thanks again for commenting.

Hoses, gaskets, bushings, etc. wear with age as well as mileage so will all likely need to be replaced. Obviously the tires do too from the pictures. Water pumps can fail at any time (my last one lasted 2 months--OEM Continental). OP, I'm sure it's just as good as any 335is without a strong maintenance history, but don't buy it thinking you'll be clear of the issues you'd encounter with one with more miles. It will still need to be gone through to get everything sorted. |

lol there's pretty much no way you could rollback the mileage on an e9x. the mileage is stored in like 11 different computers within the car.

You have to trust me on this one but I've seen it done even on newer models, it cost a lot of money but it can be done..

It could be a nice find but I'd get a PPI done, confirm that everything is in order or use the findings as a bargaining chip to negotiate the price. Someone just posted about their '08 335 and the turbos dies within 48 of buying. A PPI would have saved them $7K with a $200 investment.

Uhhh yeah, hoses and any other rubber parts could definitely be worn out. It is not just the mileage that puts wear onto rubber components. Age/exposure to elements also wears out/deteriorates rubber, which is why the tires are cracking, it's called dry rotting. He needs to inspect all hoses and belts.

The PO of my car went and bought a low mileage 335is after selling his old car to me. Clean title, etc.
He later plugged in a scanner and found a whole mess with the VIN / Engine Serial, etc. Also that the car had been in a significant front end accident. Proceed carefully |

I bought my one owner 2011 e90 335i PE last year with 18k on the clock from BMW. Prior to me buying it, BMW had to replace the HPFP (that is why the prev owner traded it in) and the tires. Also, my VCG started to leak at 22k miles and had that replaced. So, even though the car has low miles, there still can be potential problems even at those miles.
Edit, my battery was also replaced by BMW before I purchased. Non comfort access. Last edited by Lost808; 02-11-2020 at 05:13 PM.. |

In both of these low mileage cars (the 2012 and the 2011) you should expect to be at the end of life for your battery too. I bought my 2008 335xi E92 last February with only 18K miles and the seller had just paid the BMW dealer to replace the battery. I chose to replace all 4 date code 2008 original tires, oil/filter, and flushed the brakes and coolant. HPFP had already been replaced
I did the 2 open recalls and now have 22K miles without any issues - and love this car

It's a baby at 14k. I'd buy it. And being an IS it'll hold its value a bit more than a regular e92 during resale. Especially if kept below the 60K mark.
