BMW Individual High End Audiosystem

In Europe we have the option for BMW Individual High End Audiosystem. The price is 2847,- extra.

From the BMW site:
As in music, true mastery is also required to achieve a first-class listening experience for the interior of a vehicle. The BMW Individual High End Audio System is able to fulfil this exacting demand perfectly. Signal processing is precisely tuned to the three-dimensional space, and DIRAC technology together with speed-dependent equalising reduces unwanted ambient noise to a minimum. In addition, 16 high-performance speakers generate an impressive sound stage for the occupants. The result is sheer listening pleasure.
The brilliant tone of the BMW Individual High End Audio System is created by the absolute top quality of its individual components. Speakers are light, powerful and fitted with neodymium magnet drives. The maximum sound pressure of the extremely rigid Hexacone diaphragms is 112 dBA, with a frequency range of 18 Hz to 24 kHz. A 9-channel amplifier (825 Watt) with DSP (Digital Signal Processing) transfers the differentiated audio signals to the individual speakers. Lack of sound clarity is eliminated by time delays and any acoustic reflection is severely reduced. To do this, the digital amplifier makes use of the unique DIRAC Live technology, which modifies both time and frequency ranges of the signal.

I'm lucky to have this sytem in my BMW 335i Touring. The soundquality is
tremendously good in my opinion.
I'm curious if there are people out there who have experience with this system and what they think of it.

I've got it in my coupe and I have to admit, i'm not as impressed as I expected to be. My old E90 325i had Logic7 and although the Individual audio in my E92 seems to have more clarity, the bass doesn't seem as strong and the mid and treble don't impress me as much as I thought they would.

I've heard that the acoustics in the coupe are much worse than in the sedan (saloon) and therefore if I only had the Logic7 in the coupe it would sound worse, however as it stands i'm not totally convinced by the individual system.

I should note that I seem to be in the minority regarding this system, however.

Here a review article. The Bass quality is excellent in this review and that is also my opinion. This test was in the BMW 5 serie.

The Dirac technology must be a garanty that this audio system is good in every type of car. This technology is not used by the Logic7 and thats mayby the reason of the problems in the coupe.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very good system, and I noticed the difference in clarity between the Logic7 and the Individual sound systems straight away. It's much more accurate. I'm wondering if there is a problem with my sound system because my Individual system seems to have a little less bass than my old Logic7 car did. I'll get them to look at it at the next service.

How have you set up the equalizer on your Individual system?

All frequencies are in the neutral position. Sometimes for example when I'm playing the last CD of Madonna Hard Candy I have ti lower the Bass frequencies.

I certainly would if it were available - even at the high price that BMW charges. I'll have to settle for Logic7, however.....

I am very happy with my High End Individual system... but mind that it doesn't perform that well if you don't play with the EQ settings! The difference after the EQ tweaking is tremendous!

please compare to bang and olufsen from audi A5, A8

Can you please compare it with the bang and olufsen from audi A5 or the fantastic one from A8? I have logic 7, and I am not satisfied with it.A lot of money for almoast for nothing...I wanted to put the high end, but I can only pay that amount of money on something that I here and that impresses me...I didn't had the chance to hear it, so I settled for a logic 7.please post after hearing the bang and olufsen from audi.
thank you

Can you tell me the settings you use? The Logic7 boys have a thread with the optimum settings but us Individual guys don't!

After listening to the Individual High End Audio for the past three months and I have found it to be disappointing and not worthy of inclusion in such a fine automobile. Considerable tweeking of the treble, bass and seperate EQ settings did initially improve the sound quality, however, the bass is weak, the midrange unrefined and the treble fizzy and abrassive. I would not recommend this upgrade - instead save your money on new speakers, ampifiers and possibly a subwoofer or bass tube.

By way of comparison, my previous E36 318i had a Pioneer head unit, MB Quart Splits up front, two ways in the rear parcel shelf, an Alpine 4 Channel amp, and a Bazooka 80W powered bass tube. A modest system by modern standards but the sound is lush, even and loud enough for all genres of music.

I was so disappointed with the High End Audio option , I have decided to keep my 318i as a reference system for future audio upgrading on the E92. Once I get the new system up and running on the E92 I will share my results with the forum.

I wonder if the touring has better acoustics than the coupe...would explain why the two coupe owners on here are disappointed

For anyone interested in the BMW Individual High End system in the US, it's possible that it may one day be offered in the E9x series.

Right now, Logic7 is the only option for US buyers (except for the M3).

But in my 2009 E9x manual, there is one section of the manual that claims it pertains to both the Logic7 and the Individual High End Audio options. I wonder if the Individual High End Audio will be offered soon to US buyers of E90?

I certainly wish that I had been able to order it. Not that I'm complaining about the Logic7 that I got, but I would have sprung for the upgrade had I been allowed to order it in the US.
