Engine cranks, no start

I have a 2008 328i, e90, Super Ultra Low Emission model,
When cranking, the engine sometimes gives a short burst of firing, but the starter shuts off.
I've checked the fuses and relay for the fuel pump, jumped the connector for the relay and checked the voltage at the round 6-pin connector at the low pressure pump.
The pump reads 12 volts, so I replaced the pump, still no start.

The code reader pulls up a P0492 code, secondary air system, but from what I understand, that would not prevent the car from starting.

I just pulled off the plastic needed to access the fuel rail, but did not immediately see a schrader valve for the fuel line to test the secondary pressure.
I have seen forums that indicate mass air flow issues, so I'm planning on bypassing the MAS, but aside from all that, I'm at a loss.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Are you in a SULEV state? If so tow the car to the dealer. The repairs should be covered. My fuel pump went and the dealer replaced the pump and the tank at no charge under the SULEV warranty. The warranty is good up to 150,000 miles but the car must be registered in a SULEV state.

If you are not in a SULEV state I read a post on here from a member in Florida who registered his car in Vermont (by using a service company for a nominal fee) then had a repair done at his dealer under SULEV. After the repair was done he switched his registration back.

No, I just bought the car a few weeks back from someone who lived in Maryland, I am in Tennessee.
The nearest dealer is over 50 miles away, and I've already replaced the low pressure pump.

The car was in excellent condition, everything was working flawlessly until the no start condition.

Thanks culto, my only reservation with that is, if the problem is not sulev related, I will be stuck in the same boat, only with more expense.

If I can verify that it is sulev related, I will definitely take your advice, as the mileage has not surpassed the 150,000 mark.

Thanks for your suggestion!

What was done to car before no start condition? You said it was working fine.. Did you just go to start then nothing or was there work done in between?

No, parked at at work, tried to start after work, no start.

That morning, it did take two attempts to start though, which seemed odd or unusual for the short time I've owned the car.

Yeah that's weird... The code you gave is commonly linked to vacuum line disconnected/broken.. It could be a start... It usually doesn't keep car from starting though.

That was my impression as well.
