Late E90 & F30: Is EGR Adaption required when fitting a new EGR?

I have watched a few videos of people fitting a new EGR valve to later model E90 and F30

None of them do any EGR Adaption to reset the CPU.

I cannot find any reference in the forum post titles.

This page starts with stating EGR adaption is required.

Does anyone know if it is required? If so, what software will do this?
