"Service Engine Soon" warning light -- what could it be?
Hey guys,
Yesterday, out of nowhere, my "Service Engine Soon" light came up on my dash. I have a 335i coupe with the Dinan Flash Stage II. Anyone know what the 3-4 most common causes of a "Service Engine Soon" light to be triggered? Anyone with this experience? I have an appointment scheduled for Thursday, but just wanted to get some feedback before I go in... just in case I shouldn't be driving with the warning light on. Thanks!

BMWNA detected a mod on your car var the key fob and is requesting you come in so they can take a picture of you and the car for their "Mod of Shame"

Yeah, the SA asked me about that... but I haven't filled up since last week and the warning just came on yesterday.
I'll be sure to check when I get back to the car later today... Thanks

doesn't "Service Engine Soon" just indicate that you are due for regular scheduled maintenance? Or is it a check engine light/MIL? If it is the latter, then you would need to scan for codes to determine whey the indicator came on.

So, after reading Richwm's reply and listening to my SA, I checked my gas cap yesterday evening, and it was locked in place... but I took it off and secured it back in place again just in case.
This morning, the SEL went away... whether this was because it was a misfire (as ENINTY said) or if my gascap was somehow loose or the gascap sensor failed to detect the gascap for some reason, I don't know... well, it's fixed for now... Thanks for the input, guys!

There are a lot of codes that will reset after a few dirve cycles. I misfire will reset. If the gas cap was loose you'd get the icon is spoke about. Last summer a mouse chew a hole in one of the vapor canister lines, which triggered the gas cap icon on my car . The '06 manual does not show what the icon looks like; it only mentions it.

I'd take it in anyway. The first time me SES light came on and went off by itself, I thought nothing of it. Turned out to be some serious misfiring. Better off getting it checked out. It should save any codes it threw.

Service engine soon?
Mine came on due to exceeding the coolant input temp threshold (92 degrees I believe), but not classic overheating. Can't quite figure out why its running too warm. May be just the sensor, may be the fan is not coming on soon enough. Thermo is new.

e90 sedan hesitating under accelertionw/ SES light
did anyone ever find out the issue when the SES light is on and there is misfiring occurring? I have a 2006 325i that had slight mis firing yesterday and this morning. I filled up the tank with 93 octane and immediately it got worse. I jumped on the highway and the SES light came on along with serious misfiring/vibration under acceleration only. Car has 48k miles and has been serviced regularly. I stopped at the parts store and put 2 bottles of drygas and a bottle of Techron FI cleaner, but to no avail. I also removed the gas gap and put it back making sure it is secure. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same thing with my e92 335i and the solution is check your 6 sparks and you probably need to change them, that will fix the problem and nore engine service soon light believe me.

I have an 07 328i e92 original spark plugs and ignition coils. Check engine soon light came on and when I come to a stop/light signal- i step on the clutch and the car shuts off. Could the stalling be from the plugs? Please help.
