Tow hook thread size?
I'm getting ready to replace the oil pan gasket on my 07' 335i coupe. I went to thread in the factory tow hook to the threaded hole next to the oil filter that's used to lift the engine. Not sure what tow hook the guy gave me when I bought the car, but the thread diameter is way to big to thread into the threaded hole in the block.
Anyone know what size threads are in that hole in the block? I might just fold a bolt that's the right size locally, and weld a loop on the top to lift with. Thanks!

Just take your engine into the local hardware store and test fit all the different bolt sizes they offer.
Honestly I doubt any normal hardware store would have heavy duty bolts with that thread. It's thicc |

Those threads are not machine threads per se. You need a BMW tow hook. $15 on eBay.
A pic of the hook you have would be good. Inspect it carefully for a part number. |

Also, did you try threading the tow hook into the bumper, F&R?
Just as a sanity check. Like, maybe the tow hook is correct and it's the hole in the engine that's not right. |
