Comfort Access Worth It?

Is it really worth it? i know its cool and all but is it really worth the extra money? much like the leather leatherette debate.

What do you get with comfort access? i know you get like a keyless entry and door locks. But what else? do you get the smart key like in the IS350 where you can drive without putting the key in?

The CA worthiness debate has been beaten to death. Do a search.

To answer your question, yes you get into the car, put your foot on the brake and push the button and off you go. You don't have to pull the key fob out of your pocket.

You might want to do a search on this message board. Just type in "comfort access." This question pops up a lot every now and then and you can see what others have already said about it.

There's even a comfort access video you can watch. I plan on making one that is a little more detailed in an e90 with the OEM alarm.

I think Comfort Access in most of the BMW forums has been named the "best value" as far as options go, in general. It seems like everyone that has it gives it very high marks and say the money is more than well spent.

I'd recommend getting it, and I'm sure there are tens of thousands out there that would say the same.

I chose not to get it, but most say they like it. I read of problems and I really don't see any advantage except you don't have to press a button to open your doors. If it had auto start, I would have gotten it, but who cares about pressing a button. Just hold the key in your hand when you have stuff in your hands. Just takes a little planning.

I agree with the rest, a search on this topic will give you plenty to read.

You also don't have to insert the key to start the car.

keep this in mind, if you have $500, go for it. Why? because if you don't and you want it later, you're shit out of luck. You cannot add one later like what you do with the alarm or the rear shade.

Hell yeah!

It's cool to be able to walk up to the car and grab the handle and it opens for you. Get in, push in the clutch, push the start button and off you go. And it knows when the fob is inside the car or trunk so in case you lock your keys inside it will automatically unlock the door/trunk for you.

The one feature I wish it had was that once you got out of the car and walked away out of tranmitter range that the car would automatically lock but I guess that could cause unwanted locking problems.

I got it but to be honest I dont see that it's a very big deal. For example when people are with u, u have to get to the car first to open the doors so I use the remote and oh yeah that FOB can be uncomfortable in the pants..That and some other options could have saved me a bit of money...

Just an opinion..$500 is $500 dollars..

Not worth it. I like having my car opened up before I get to the door and you don't need comfort access for that.

I didn't order it because I didn't want to keep a key fob in my pants pocket

That does sound comparatively inexpensive--Mercedes' equivalent "Keyless Go" is $1,080 . The downside is it's one more electronic thing to go wrong.

Huh? Comfort Access has nothing to do where you choose to keep your fob. You can stick it in your shirt pocket, your jacket, wherever. You can even stick it in the car's ignition key holder.

Where do you keep your non-CA car key when you are away from your car? CA is also about not having to search your pants pockets for your keys when you're carrying groceries, books, etc..

I find that the amount of times my hands are so full and not being able to get to my keys are rare but manageable. I personally do not feel there is great value in CA and a waste of $500 that could go to another item such as an exhaust or something. I had my car valet at the Red Lobster the other day and the guy assumed my car had CA and pulled out the key fob with it still running. I had to explain to him that not all cars have this feature and not to just pull the key fob out. I'm sure he didn't step on the brake and push the start button like you are suppose to. Anyway I think it is a waste IMO.

I have CA and my car was set like that when I first got it. I didn't like having to get in and unlock the door while my passenger waited outside so I changed the setting on my car to unlock all the doors when I use CA. It works. I would have preferred a double pull setting but this works.

So far I like CA as and option

When it's 85 deg I won’t be wearing a jacket, I don't wear shirts with pockets, plus I fear it would fall out to easily.

I carry my keys in my hand along with my wallet. Depending on the situation I may use a money clip and keep that in my pocket, or I may give the keys to the wifey and she can put them in her purse.

I can see the advantage of having CA but not at the expense of having to have that in my pocket. But that's just me Now if they can come up with something the size of a credit card, I'm in!
