Catless DP + Berk mids or catted DP + custom mids?

Last week I picked up a 2012 135i and wanted to get some opinions from fellow BMW owners. I would post on 1addicts but it's kinda slow over there

Vehicle is already equipped with catless VRSF dp's, stock mids and a PE with y-pipe. I've never owned a vehicle with aftermarket dp's and the smell is too harsh for me. I don't like A/C and drive with the windows down all the time. PPI did not indicate an exhaust leak but maybe they missed it(?). I'm having a different BMW indy mechanic check it out next week. It has a burble tune as well, have others experienced a stronger smell due to a burble tune?

I'm planning to keep the PE axle back for now and considering 2 solutions to get rid of the smell:
1. Replace catless dp with a high flow catted dp ($500 for vrsf otherwise $800-$1000) + resonated Berk mids ($550)
2. Keep catless dp and find a local exhaust shop to custom fab resonated mids with cats. Will this solve the smell issue? cp-e has midpipes with resonators and cats but $1200+

Option 2 will be $700-$800 cheaper which I can put towards other mods. Any reason to go with option 1?
