DCT for E92

I've use the search function and looked for DCT and got some information that it could come out in a year or two in the US for the current 3. Given that time frame it will be like 2010 and most probably the new-gen 3 is probably coming out soon. Is it worth the wait or simply hold on and get the new gen 3 (most likely an dhopefully the DCT will replace the Step)? What's your opinion?

Had it on my GTI and loved it. The steptronic is much smoother though. I knew it was coming in a year or less I thought, but I decided not to wait. It is cool though but not sure if its worth waiting a year.

You could always just get the steptronic and buy the DCT shifter!

I don't think the new 3 series is coming out until 2012.

The DCT sounds like a great solution to the "Should I buy a manual or auto" question. But given the complexity of the DCT, you might want to wait until it's been out for a year or two before buying one. I know they are offering it in the new M3, but BMW needs more time to identify and correct problems.

You have a point there and I saw a recall for M3 owners for the DCT on the homepage. anyway, thanks for the info, thought the new 3 will come out in 2010.

Honestly I wouldn't wait too long for the new DCT. Within 3 years they'll have the next 3 series sedan (F30) and in four year there'll be the new coupe (F32). I'm sure they'll both have DCT.

I would get the car now. Something new always comes out. If you get the DCT in the next year or two, you might start seeing rumors and spy pics of the new generation 3. If you get the new gen 3, you might see some issues and bugs wrong with the car that will get fixed next year. If you get the new gen 3 during its mid cycle you would be in the same situation you are in now. So when are you actually going to buy the car?

They already have it in European 3ers. It won't be long before they will make it availabe in the current 3 series, probably as a high price option. Keep talking about it and asking for it and hopefully they will make it available sooner. They do read this forum, you know.

Am just scouting around and my car is still ok so am not really into serious buying but who knows right. I just read some article where they think that it is possible it will be offered here in the US. Though GAaaAR has a point, if its new, DEFINITELY there will be bugs as we are seeing right now in the M3 so it is really best to give it a year or two and most probably those bugs are fixed. With that time frame, the new (F32) could be possibly on its testing phase or already out for production.
