E91 LCI 318d central locking issue

Hello everyone...I have a big problem and any help would be appreciated.

Ok so first...big BMW fan since my childhood finally sold my old Chevy Aveo and bought my dream car: E91 LCI M/T 2011 (318d because...Europe taxes & salaries ). Fixed all the mechanical issues, car is running good for the most part, only minor things left to be fixed.

The previous owner sold me the car with:

-non working central lock & only 1 key fob.

So far on this issue I have fixed:

-2 brown wires which were broken in the diversity module/ antenna area (soldered them and now they are good);
-changed the battery on the key fob and now it has signal;
- changed the START button ribbon connector which was destroyed by whoever worked previously on the car.
- checked to fusses...all fine, although I can't if say the car has all the fusses in place like it came from the manufacturer.

As far as the diversity module goes:

- it looks like brand new, no oxidation, no water/ humidity;
- Navigation, radio work fine;
- locking works perfectly from the central button on the dashboard.

What can the issue be?

PS: Next...I want to try a new diversity module to see if that is the cause.

Thanks in advance!

Test your antenna voltages

You should replace the length of wiring using silicone insulated wires and crimped connections. Solder joints will break over time

Tinting can block Radio signals.
You might want to get some diagnostics such as
K/D can cable and Standard Tools and Ista D
see coding sub forum.

Back with an update:

- fixed broken wires; (also checked the fuse box/ fuses/ all wires - no problems from the wiring harness);
- bought a new Diversity module (tested);
- my old module had parts falling from the PCB;
-disconnected battery wire/ reconnected it after 10min;
- checked the key fob (it has signal, new battery).

The result: central locking still doesn't work.

My FRM has an error it appears as: E90, E92 & E93. Could this be the issue?

From what I understand from the person which repaired my car I have only 2 options left: cloning the key & FRM.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you don't have diagnostics you should get some.
BMW Standard Tools and Ista D with K/D can cable on
laptop recommended.

On making and syncing keys.

CAS and DME is where the battery info and sync is .

Central locking is controlled by the JBE not FRM. Have you had the key checked to see if it is transmitting a signal?

Ctuna is right, you should get ISTA D. It will make diagnosing this fault a lot easier.

Back with an update:

-new key fob (from an old car, recoded and with new battery soldered) - central locking is working! Thanks for the ideas and help guys!

We have only one issue left:

-randomly it blinks the signal lights and doesn't unlock the car or it doesn't blink and it unlocks the car.

It works perfectly for 10-15 locks/ unlocks after that it needs ~ 12-20 seconds to work again.

I can think of only 2 issues:

-key fob from the donor car is defective;
-they changed the battery with a new one and I assume that the soldering is not ok...

I had luck when I went back to the garage with the car and they noticed the issue. They are going to take a look again at the car today because it is strange even for them.

Back with an update from the garage:

-apparently the JBE has a protection mode on 3 series? at least this is what they say;
- 2008 E87 LCI can lock/ unlock how many times I want without this issue.

Should this be the case?

Sorry for my bad english.

Im having very similar issues. I just replaced the diversity antenna and the remote locking/unlocking still doesn't work. Does a new diversity antenna need to be coded to the car?

Also, how did you go about diagnosing the damaged wiring? I assume the harness coming on on the right side of the antenna is the power; do you have any idea which one is connected to the central locking system?

Short update guys: locking/ unlocking is working fine.

smatanovic

1. The new diversity module doesn't have to be coded to the car;
2. I just pulled the two grommets from the back and started to pull each wire by hand.
3. I suggest you do the same steps I did and eliminate them 1 by 1. For testing with the new diversity module you need only the connector from the right side inserted. Left is radio antenna, and the middle ones are rear defrost and central brake light.
