2011 E90 LCI rear/tail fog lights adversely affecting break lights
Hello,
I have made an account because recently my E90 LCI has failed its MOT. I’m not sure if the majority of the users here are from the UK but an MOT is basically a yearly check to make sure the vehicle is road worthy. One of the reasons it failed is due to an electrical issue whereby turning on the rear fog lights stops the rear break/stop lamps from working when I press down on the break pedal. The only stop light that lights up is the center high mount stop light above the rear window. When I turn off the rear fog lights all is back to normal. I was told that because I switched out the FRM earlier last year due to a malfunction it could be an issue with the coding in the one I bought. However, another reason is that there is an electrical short occurring which stops the break lights from working. Also, apparently there may be a special break light for the LCI E90 that is used when the fog lights are on? For some reason I have scoured the whole internet and there is NOTHING on this, apart from one forum post where the solution wasn’t publicly shared. Hopefully someone on here is able to suggest what the issue could be? I had to go abroad right after the MOT so I haven’t had a chance to play around and see what’s wrong but I’m making this post so that when I come back I have something to go off Thank you! |

Are functioning rear fogs necessary as part of a safety inspection over there?
They are so annoying over here with cars that have them, usually Audi/Volvo/Mercedes, but not BMW as far as I know. There has to be logic involved since the car can tell via a code which lamp (mine is pre LCI) is going bad etc. I don't have the answer, but was curious if it's a requirement to have them working...otherwise here, some people have added it, but I'm certain it would not come into play during a safety inspection, just the brake and tail, markers and head...not even fog... |

Next time I’m with my car I’m gonna check the codes on the dash display, I know that currently I always have a light bulb pop up but it’s because I have LED’s fitted to illuminate the angel eyes. |
