E92 rear tyre swap sides
Hi
Quick Q. I have a warning for a low tread (2.9mm) on the inner side of my nearside rear tyre. Checking the other side, I do not have the same issue but fairly consistent wear. Could I get the garage to swap these tyres to enable a longer lifespan of the tyre? I clearly don't mean reversing them but simply swapping them over so the inside edge would then become the outside edge. This is the result of poor tracking which my e92 has been notorious for over the 7 years of ownership. Clearly I have tried to rectify this at source and definitely have improved, but still not entirely. thanks |

I would warn against it if the tire is at the end of it's life. As important, I would inspect the suspension for worn bushings and components which caused the issue. Odds are, you can replace the parts for the equivalent of those tires and get current on maintenance. I own an '09 E92 335 and haven't had these issues. I try to spend a little every month on maintenance so it keeps running well, those small projects help extend the life of more expensive items like tires.

Thanks. Yes I have replaced several bushings etc. Over the years as it's on 120K miles so they just wear out.
There's a lot of anecdotal experience out there that e9x tyre wear is uneven even from new, and no amount of tracking will fix that. But I do agree that the problem could be being exacerbated by worn components. |
