2AED code
Hi,
It is my first post on this forum so I apologise if I have done something wrong ![]() Happy New Year to everyone! I have BMW 318i 2011 with 2l petrol engine, I own it for about a year and already managed to spend a small fortune on it ;s I used to get the following codes : 2AF4 - nox related 2AF2 - nox related 2AF6 - nox related 30C1 - sometimes after the motorway drive when idling a low oil pressure comes up, but after switching engine off and on it disappears and not coming back. A559 - no idea what triggers it - possibly poor battery that is due to be replaced soon. 9D12 - I think its regarding alarm battery A6CF - was told to not worry about it. Things I have done so far are : Replaced ECU (aftermarket) - water damage, apparently quiet common - extra drainage has been made once ECU replaced. Replaced NOX sensor (aftermarket) - and here is my question, once the garage replaced the NOX I am still getting NOX related code but now it is 2AED, tried to search many forums but did not find any answers. The garage that replaced the sensor is BMW specialised, however when I asked them to reset adaptations they did not know what I am talking about - so I asked them to have a look on the computer they use and there was an option to reset adaptions and it has been done but the error came back. Does anyone have any idea what this code means and how to get rid off it? Regards. |

ISTA defines "2AED" fault code: "DME: Nitrogen oxide sensor, version". I don't have your engine or NOX Sensor, but my interpretation of that is that the DME is saying the "version" (aftermarket) NOX Sensor your shop installed is recognised by the DME as INCORRECT. So I would expect you would "get rid of 2AED" fault code by replacing aftermarket NOX Sensor with an OEM or otherwise "Proper" part that does NOT cause DME to set that Fault Code. A knowledgeable BMW parts supplier can hopefully identify an OEM part, cheaper than "Genuine BMW" which will NOT cause that code. See attached RealOEM.com parts catalog link for NOX Sensor (BMW Part# 11787587130), assuming you have N43 Engine: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...19#11787587130 Since N43 Engine was NOT used in US, our BMW Parts Suppliers do not even LIST that part. So you will need to "ask around" to parts houses in UK re availability, price & "Version Fault". Sometimes you can "get lucky" using Amazon, entering "BMW 11787587130" (BMW followed by 11-digit BMW part#). Perhaps that's what your shop did, and was NOT "lucky". Here's what results using that method for Amazon UK:https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=BMW+117...ref=nb_sb_noss Perhaps you should let the "BMW Specialist Shop" know about ISTA & INPA. If YOU have a windows computer (desktop is OK for ISTA Document use), YOU can download & install BMW Software and do your own diagnosis. If you have a laptop & want to connect to the Vehicle to do Diagnostics, the Cable is $30 to $50 in US. See attached pdf: "E9x References, 220830 Revision". George |

Just wondering if that code means that NOX sensor is not “operating” and if so could it be caused that the part was not “registered” to ECU? Is it possible to code it to be recognised by ecu? Thank you for your support! |

I have the same code on my n53 with aftermarket NOX. It always seems to read 0ppm nox but doesn’t stop the engine going into stratified charge mode. I assume it behaves similarly to noxem. The seller gave my my money back but I kept the sensor on the car.
