How common is the big end bearing problem on n57?
Hey everyone,
New to the forum but have been following the posts on here for quite some time. I have seen many posts about the big end faliure on these engines but never quite got an answer as to which engines are most effected. Anyways i bought a 3 series Touring (e91). The car has about 100k miles on the clock. Its in tip top nick, the engine runs smoothly. Anyways when the previous owner imported it from Italy (its quite rare here to get an 330d 180kw with a 6 speed manual) he did all the precationary measures to the engine before chip tuning it. That was about 20k miles ago. The work done: -all bottom end and main bearings replaced -piston rings -new chains and guides -sandblasted ports and swirl flaps removed -new egr -new crank pulley along with acsessory tensioners and rollers and belt -new thermostat Anyways the car is pushing about 300hp. Oil has been changed at 8k intervals (i know the owner thats why i bought the car) I never push my cars hard i just do very long trips to work and back on the highway. So my questions are: -are these engines so prone to bottom end faliure that it will happen no matter what -which cars are most prone to these faliures (i mostly read about the 535d and 640d) -is there any preventative maintanance i can do to keep my car running for years to come? Thanks in advance for your answers and glad to finaly be a part of the bmw community |
