what kind of wire? pdc retrofit

Hello all and thank you for reading

I am in the process of gathering all parts to retrofit pdc front/rear in my lci e91.

i have harnesses from ebay, but both are cut and I need to extend them and add contacts, etc

working on the rear pdc, specifically for the pdc power supply cable, I have to extend 4 wires:

- 0.5mm square (20awg) GN/WS to a double flat spring contact
- 0.5mm square (20awg) Brown/Black to an eyelet M6

then the 2 can cables that are twisted together that connect to can via cable connectors

- 0.35mm square (22awg) can high
- 0.35mm square (22awg) can low

my question is this:

I can get the double flat spring contact connector already married to a shorter cable via part # 61130021229 and connect that to hookup wire, and I can crimp on an m6 eyelet no problem and connect to hookup wire.

my question is this:

what is the appropriate hookup wire for me to utilize? 300v? 600v? SXL?
TXL? GXL? am I overthinking this?

I wish I could just order a set of spools of about 50 feet each that BMW uses so I can have the exact OEM cable type with appropriate jacket and coloring.

I just want to do this right the first time

thanks for reading - JO

indeed - hence the my query

as such, I wanted to rephrase my question which in hindsight was opaque at best and confusing at worst:

as I need to extend wiring for a pdc power cable that was cut short, specifically

20 awg (0.5mm square) hookup wire for power +/-
22 awg (0.35mm square) hookup wire for CAN high/low

my questions re the hookup wire:

- stranded or solid?
- 300v vs 600?

basically which hookup wire is closest to that which BMW uses in creating these harnesses?

Have you ever seen a single solid wire anywhere on a car?

your point is heard/understood/acknowledged

I ask as I would just assume not take a chance in discovering something new after the fact, so I am posing this question prior

Now then, I grok that I am looking for 300v or 600v stranded hookup wire

is there a favorite wire vendor?

I am messianic about OEM and as such, do not want to just use any hookup wire if at all possible, but rather the absolute correct wire.

what an absolutely brilliant idea which I never once considered. Your contribution in suggesting this tack is so valuable. No really - thank you.

to further interrogate this position, if you have knowledge that indeed what I am looking for is available from BMW (despite part numbers not being found on fcpeuro, realoem, et al) WITH the appropriate ends on:

0.5mm sq/20 awg with an m6 eyelet end with about 3 feet/1 meter of service loop to connect to my cut pdc power cable

0.5mm sq/20 awg with a double flat spring connector with about 3 feet/1 meter of service loop to connect to my cut pdc power cable

0.35mm sq/22 awg orange/green wire 2 meters long
0.35mm sq/22 awg green wire 2 meters long.

im all ears.

otherwise, my original question remains.

I'm not following here. I told you several posts ago that yarded cable is available from BMW. Then you mess about asking questions about what wire to use while keeping it original.

1. Have you even looked at the existing wire yet? If so that would have easily answered your question about solid vs stranded.

2. 300v 600v does it matter? My bmw is 12v. Either would be adequate I'd think. Higher insulation values will likely come about via thicker insulation, so you choose if you want big chunky or thinner material.

Points 1 and 2 completely obviated by purchasing the aforementioned cable directly from BMW. Thus complying with your desire to keep it OEM.

BMW also sells the terminals you need. Buy them too, crimp them on.

Its all on Real Oem.

By the way, BMW don't use 6mm eyelets for ground connections, that's not OEM.

BMW indeed does use 6mm eyelets for ground connections.

from page 7 and page 20 of the e91 pdc retrofit instructions please find that:

on page 7 titled "4. Rear PDC retrofit connection diagram" you will find Branch Item B2 designated with an Eyelet M6 that connects to the joint connector in footwell on passenger side" Abbreviation slot X10012. You will see the picture of the M6 Eyelet on the page.

continuing on page 20 titled "13. To install and connect the rear PDC wiring harnesses" you will find the instruction to "Secure Branch B2 to joint connector X10012"

Note the instructions to connect the eyelet to the SCREW holding joint connector X10012.

Ill get the M6 eyelet and crimp it on from available BMW motorcycle parts.

I will give up the search for this to be as OEM as possible as I am unable to get every color cable I need by the yard. I will always remember your help. thank you.
