Are you going to flash tune your car? If the answer yes I recommend either MAD catless downpipes or Arm Motorsports. If you aren’t going to flash your car then get Active Autowerks Gesi catted downpipes or Apex Built ones. Those are the only two downpipes that I have seen in person not to throw a code. You can also just run a midpipe as well. MAD makes a great one along PSI

Thanks those 2 are really good recommendations I don’t want to tune my car immediately. So I’ll probably go with one of those with the cat to not throw a code and still add a little bit of power. Also do you recommend the full valvetronix titanium exhaust ?

Most catted downpipes will still trigger the check engine light. if that's a concern, you should go with the active autowerke catted

MAD is an excellent choice if you can live with the code until your car is tuned.

Just to touch on this subject. We have many customer running our catless downpipes with no cel and no tune. You just need two cheap parts to make it work

You need the BDG mini cats not O2 spacers and the catless or 200 euro catted downpipes will work no CEL. I would personally not recommend paying thousands more for the GESI cats when the BDG mini cats are $50 each. Not as much sound increase with the GESI cats either.

If you're not planning to do any kind of tune, you're not going to see gains from your downpipes or intake.

Look into the Evolution Racewerks Downpipes. These are built in the US, and look/fit fantastic. We've been withing with the ER guys for about ~12 years, and can attest they are fantastic quality in both construction and fitment.

Since you're in the IE, feel free to drop by if you're in the Anaheim area or drop a PM if you have any additional questions.

Tom - Good to know you're local for when I end up with a G80.

On the exhaust topic: does anyone know on the topic of exhausts if there's a power difference between running a single midpipe versus x-pipe? And which might be ideal with downpipes and eventually a tune?

There is little to no gains in midpipes, despite what manufacturers claim. BMW did an excellent job with the stock system. For most, the stock downpipe just a bit too tame in sound, so it's a popular mod for a throatier sound.

Tune will be your biggest bang for the buck in terms of horsepower and drivability. Your DME will require to be unlocked, the BM3 Multirom is a very tune that gives you 4 tunes in one, all selectable from the steering wheel.

The power gains will be very similar between the two because they are both essentially removing same parts (secondary cat and resonator).

The biggest difference will be in the sound.
