M-Drivers Package Speed limit delete) or not

Just talked with my sales representative who missed adding the M-Drivers Package (deleted speed limiter and 1 day BMW experience). He said I´ll have to start over if I want to add M-Drivers.

Status went from 112 to 150 this week.

Living in Scandinavia with 120 kph limit and no plans to use the car on a track, I´m a bit hesitant to start over at the back of the queue again and wait for another allocation.

How many of you have to M-Drivers and find it useful?

Unless it's different in Sweden, it doesn't delete the speed limiter it moves it from 250kph to 280kph.

Oh right, it moves it from 250kph to 290kph, so it´s not fully deleted.

Nope. That's their legal disclaimer.
Reality is, there is no limiter with the M drivers package. The car easily does 290 on a straight, and with a slight downhill, I hit 302kph on autobahn

the limiter can also be easily removed with an ECU tune if that's something you are interested in for the future.

Yes, but with the need to send the ECU to FEMTO it’s something that I’m not considering at the moment.

Ultimately, if you feel you’ll never hit those speeds, I don’t think it’s a necessary option. You can always purchase an M day/weekend thru BMW.

I may be alone on this, but if that’s what you wanted on the car, I wouldn’t settle.

I was a bit hesitant about the M-Drivers Package since I probably wont have any use for the additional speed, but I got almost all other options (except CCB and buckets) so I thought why not.

If you really feel you need that extra speed out of the gate, I agree, wait and get what you want.

If you aren't sure, can always unlock the DME later. 55 minute flight for $85 USD from Stockholm to Helsinki

You can have a vaca day in Helsinki for half the price is costs us US guys to get the DME to Finland and back lol.

In the Uk it’s the only real way of getting the m driving experience on a track in your type of car. Great fun and worth the money.

I live in Sweden too. My car was already specified when I bought it and according to the dealer it was not possible to add the package and change limiter post delivery. I wanted the M-experience track day mostly. However, after a couple of trips to Germany and free speed I cannot say it is many times I have felt I needed 40 km/h more.

Answered your own question here. Why wait for something you're never going to use, cost money, and had ZERO resale value?

Get the car, and book a track day if you want that experience.

What build week are you?

Looking at what I would get with the FEMTO+BM3+BMW Experience compared to the M-Drivers Package. I might have to reconsider doing the unlock.

Here in Sweden the M-Drivers Package cost $2,600.
Comparing with:
  • FEMTO $825
  • BM3 $695
  • BMW Exp. $1,380
  • Total ~$2,900 (excl. travel/shipping cost)

It´s close enough to the M-Drivers cost, and will add a tune and some additional options.

So I´ll go with FEMTO combo in the future if I feel like I need the speed limit unlock and tuner, otherwise I´ll just go with the BMW Exp.

Guess the only downside is the voided warranty when doing the unlock with FEMTO.

The winter experience looks pretty nice: https://bmwexperience.se/en/bmw-wint...ience-english/

True! I´ll move on with the car in production.

Not sure if I got all the dates/status right, but I think it´s build week 35:
  • Request (Quota): 32/08/2023
  • Production Request (Önskad PW): 32/08/2023
  • Production confirmed (Bekräftad PW) 35/08/2023
  • Delivery date (leveransvecka): 38/09/2023

Kul att fler från Sverige är på forumet.

Great to hear, I´ll probably do some runs in Germany also in the future.

I didn‘t spec the M-Driver‘s Package in my original order, but got it when I switched the order to an earlier available built. So in your situation, I think I would not change the order and would live without it. The benefit for you (!) is too small. But! I am living in Germany and be quite happy to have it now. Not that I drive such high speed regularly (didn‘t even try launch control in the last 18 month of ownership and hit the 290 only twice and when showing the car to friends who wanted to experience it), but knowing that I could do at anytime and that the car‘s power is not restricted feels just better. Call me childish or whatever, but if you run the car on a free autobahn and all the standard GTI and 440i, Diesel cars etc. that also can do 250 stick at your ass, going to 270 or whatever and leave them behind make you feel the difference of having a real M-car.

BTW: The German configurator still says that the Package can be retrofitted at a later time (if car didn‘t get modified in the meanwhile and if certain original necessary options are included, e.g. no sunroof I assume)

Thanks for your input.

The Swedish BMW site actually says the same, the package can be retrofitted/added after finished production. But I talked with several dealerships that says they been denied from BMW Germany, when trying to add the package on finished builds.
