Camshaft Bearings
Hello so, a little while back my 330i E90 N52 wanted to lose all oil pressure. I'm not 100% sure why but I do know that I spun a cam bearing after pulling it apart I looked at the camshaft on the intake side and that cam is toast. So my question is were would I find new bearings for that? I'm not sure if I need a new head or if they come with bearing already installed, but I cant find them any were would be very thankful with your guys input on that.

What do you mean cam bearing? I cant think of the last time a modern engine had camshaft bearings.
Its just head, camshaft and oil pressure |

I believe they just mean the smooth bearing surfaces. It's not a bearing you can swap out like a rod bearing but it does have bearing surfaces either integrated in the head/valve cover (in this case it has bearing caps to) or like the exhaust side for example of the N52 is a "bearing" tray that you can swap out.

There's no replacement bearing. If the bearing surfaces are damaged, repair is likely much more costly than just getting a used head in good condition. Look for a newer one that's been updated to allegedly resolve the lifter ticking issue. While replacing a head with a used one that's a good time to replace/upgrade the bearing ledge seals and do some other preventative maintenance, maybe new valve guide seals. I'd install MILVs at the same time too! But first I'd check and see WHY it failed like that. That's not a common failure on the N52. Oil starvation perhaps? Did this engine ingest a serpentine belt and get some chunks of belt blocking the oil passages in the head? |
