2009 BMW 328i Oil level sensor replacement issues
Hi,
I just replaced the Oil level sensor for my 2009 BMW 328i with 128k miles. Previous to replacement I got the inactive prompt for oil level and no changes to level. After replacing the sensor, I'm still getting an Inactive prompt but the oil level has actively moved. I've tried clearing the codes, but that did not help. Could the new sensor be faulty even though its still reading the level on the backend? I read on a couple forums that a faulty TPMS sensor or Water pump could cause interference issues(Water pump replaced less than a year and 10k miles ago) but that doesn't logically make sense to me. Any advice on how to fix this? Thank you! Last edited by Jinm2221; 01-31-2024 at 06:43 PM.. |

Can you scan for codes? if you got a BSD line error it should be wp, alternator/voltage regulator, oil level sensor or IBS, disconnecting one at a time then clearing and reading errors should point to what's wrong. Had the same problem and water pump wasn't able to do the bleeding procedure normally but would never stop

Scanned for codes and received the Oil level sensor code(Can't remember the exact code but thats what it said). Batteries are fine sitting at 14.2-14.5V running. Going to test the connectors for the actual sensor this weekend and clean it with electronic cleaner to see if that'll fix it.

The new sensor might be faulty, or there could be an issue with the connection or the car's computer not properly recognizing the new sensor. The idea about the TPMS sensor or water pump causing interference sounds a bit far-fetched, especially if those components are functioning correctly. My suggestion would be to double check the installation of the sensor and maybe even try another sensor if possible

I understand that some parts need to be reprogrammed when installing a new part such as the battery if it is different than previous. Is this needed for a new Oil level sensor? The sensor came with a lifetime replacement warranty so I may have to do that after I try cleaning the plugs first.
