Sport steering wheel retrofit
My wife's pre-LCI 335xi was totaled, and I bought her an LCI 335i xDrive. The old car had the sport package, and the new car does not. The sport steering wheel is much more comfortable than the non-sport. What sort of compatibility issues will I run into if I install a sport wheel? I know the airbags are not compatible, so I would be getting that as well.
The car has heated wheel and no paddle shifters. Thanks! |

Good call, I agree with you on sports steering wheel being almost mandatory! Luckily they are 100% plug and play. The only small problem that I've heard of is that the airbag harness uses different pins on some cars. But I've swapped a few with zero complications.
Heated E90 spore wheels are pretty rare, so do a search for X1 wheels. They are much more prevalent. If you only find the one with paddles, that's fine as you can mount with them and retrofit the harness to control them, or just ignore them. Actually a little bit of an upgrade there! You'll need the dedicated airbag for the sport wheel so try to find one for sale that has that. If your car has already had the airbag recall done then you're going to kind of take your chances with the donor one. Hopefully you can get a VIN to run on it and make sure there are no recalls. Be on the steering wheel, consider sport seat retrofit as well. Those are plug and play same as the steering wheel. Potentially a small bit of wiring if your car does not have lumbar controls and the donor does. But you could ignore that part until you feel like doing it :-) |

I've done M Sport steering wheels on both of my BMW's, it's mandatory for me and the steering wheel that I put in my E92 was rewrapped in Napa leather which is so nice. BTW, I'd never consider a car with base seats, the Sport Seat are more important than the steering wheel.

I agree, the non-sport seats are a huge downgrade. Unfortunately, finding sport seats in oyster is turning out to be quite a challenge. If anyone knows a good source for such things, please advise.
Getting a wheel and airbag was a piece of cake, eBay has plenty. Thanks for the heads up about the recall, I didn't think about that. Guess I'll check the DOM when it comes in and go from there. |

Yep, anything other than black can be a challenge to find sports. Beige and gray are out there, but definitely not as many. Terra is probably the next most available, but oyster, red/black, saddle, lemon are close to unobtanium.
