the new E90 versus Audi's new A4 3.2
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to decide between the new 330i and Audi's new A4 3.2. I know you guys are obviously BMW enthusiasts but I still would like some advice on the decision. I haven't found any articles pitting these two new cars against each other so any info would be great. Thanks! |

Don't know specifically about the 3.2, but from what I remember of the last S4 I sat in at the North American International Auto Show in 2004, it seemed to have less interior room than the E90. Don't know about the newest A4, though.

I don't think there's much of a comparison between the facelifted A4 and the new 330i. There was an article in C&D recently where an A4 1.8 T finished 4th behind an Acura, Volvo and Subaru. In their words, it was feeling a bit outdated. The facelift refreshes the model, but it doesn't do wonders for it. A nice car still, but until Audi brings out a completely new A4, I don't see there being a comparison. The new E90 is going to be tops in it's class for several years!

Audis in general tend to have a bit of a different character than BMW's it seems and it doesn't look like that will change with this new A4. Not quite the athlete the BMW is but perhaps in some people's opinions, a better looking one. |

No stick on Audi
Unless I misheard, when I went to look at Audi's I was told the new 3.2 engine on the A4 does NOT come in a manual. Shocking to me, but then I'm a stick guy, so if that matters to you then that would be another reason not to go with the A4. And I think the new front is interesting, but it looks like doo doo with a license plate on it.
Good luck. m |

The A4 is a wonderful car. If I wasnt a lifetime Bimmer convert, I wouldnt have a problem getting one. But one BIG advantage of the E90 is the rear leg room..The back leg room of the A4 seems to be VERY tight..

at one time Audi was gunning for BMWs spot of making sport sedans. Now it seems like Audi is going a different direction and is dropping the whole sport angle for more of a 'lifestyle' angle. If you want a solid car with a bit less sport then a BMW, audis are great cars, but its going to be a BMW for me any day of the week.

A FAIR COMPARISON WOULD BE A NEW 325I AND THE 255HP A4, I THINK THE FAT AUDI MIGHT LOOSE TO A 6 SPEED 325I IN MOST PERFORMANCE CATAGORIES. YOU CAN'T COMPARE A 330I TO THE 3.2 A4 BECAUSE THERE NOT COMPARABLE, MAYBE AN S4 TO A 330I.

I think Audi have spolied the A4 with their midlife face lift. The styling of the rear and front lights look naff.
As for power between the two, I don't think there's much difference. I think the E90 would have better handling though with its 50/50 weight ratio. |

I HATE the bigmouth bass look!! I was almost going to by the pre-facelifted Audi A4 last year, glad I didn't. I am sooo glad I held out for the E90!!! Now, waiting is the hardest part, another two months till delivery!!

My problems with the E90
Whilst I am not in possession of the 330, I do have a new 320d E90. In my opinion steer well clear of it. Whilst my car was back in the garege, 2nd time in as many weeks, I took out a new A4. The A4 is far superior in road handling, drive, comfort and build quality. My 320 is already falling apart, trim is coming away, drivers seat is being replaced next month, there is an issue with my steering, the car is not stable. I would suggest that you take one for a long test drive (both the A4 and E90 before purchase) I ordered mine pre-launch in the UK, and wish I had never purchased one. On the positives, the engine is fantastic for a diesel, very fast and responsive. If the BMW engine could be slotted into the A4 it would be an unstoppable vehicle.

I like BMW as well as Audi. I also owned Audi A4 b4. In my opion, don't buy Audi in Hong Kong becasue of the poor service quality offered by Audi's Dealer there. The workmanship of the dealer is really terrible, they are even not qualified for Jpn car also...

It's the same way it's been for a while... Audi A4 interior wins, everything else the 3 series wins. While I think the A4 is a nice looking car, it just doesn't have the soul or personality that the e46 and e90 have IMO.
