Painting Lower Mesh Grills-
Hey guys.. OK so i've had the car for about 4 days and ive already done the Kidney grill and tackled the lower mesh grills to match it today. Here is a DIY to do this EASY and Risk free mod.
First of all I used: - PLASTI-DIP (love this stuff!) - 3M Blue tape - Small paint brush - Clip broken off from a 50 cent pen So I started off by Blue Taping the lower grills which is the longest step of the process. I started off by trying to paint it slowly with that little brush and a sponge but it was taking WAY too long. SO instead I just sprayed on a layer of the Plasti-Dip. Now the cool thing about Plasti-dip is that if you over spray onto the bumper all you have to do is wait for 10 seconds and then just wipe it off with a paper towel. Here is a picture of some over spray which was easily and completely wiped off Now i let each coat dry for about 10 minutes and didnt worry about being too perfect with it all because i knew i could touch it up later. Just as long as you get about 90-95% of the grill your good. After I let the 4th coat dry i pulled the tape off. Here is where the paintbrush and Clip come in. As you start seeing the little spots you missed spray some Plasti-dip into a plastic cup and use the little brush to touch up everything you missed.. DONT WORRY about getting a little paint on the bumper. Wait about 20 seconds and take the clip part of the pen that you broke off and run it along the line where the grill attaches to the bumper (picture) This will take any paint on the bumper right off. If you see that you over sprayed a little near the fog lights just wrap some tissue or paper towel around the pen clip and stick in in the cracks to get all the spray. The whole process took about 2-3 hours because i waited 10 minutes in between coats and tried to be as neat as possible. I felt really comfortable about it because the plasti-dip isnt permanent so i knew i could take it off if i made a mistake. Some people drove by while i was spraying the grill and i could just imagine what they were saying. " OMG that dude is spray painting his 40,000$ car.WHATS HE DOING!?" lol. I am going to leave it to dry tonight and then wash the car tomorrow and tell you how it holds up.. Sorry for the bad quality iphone pics but i hope this DIY helps..I will take some better pictures tomorrow when i get the car washed. Thanks |

UPdate: Got the car washed and its all good.. They even powerwashed the front and the stuff stayed on really well. I think one little part chipped off but you cant notice it at all and i can just touch it up next time i have some time.
