extended storage option
Hello,
just placed an order for a BMW. forgot to put in extended storage. How easy would it be to put the extended dtorage option on the car after the car has been bought? costwise/effortwise i am interested in the netting behind the front seats. |

When did you order the car? Have you checked wether you can still add it on? they might still be able to get it done if the car hasnt been built yet. otherwise it may cost you quite a bit!!

the dealer is unwilling to add any option as they say the car has gone into "build".
do you think i would miss the extended storage? i got the feeling that the backs of the front seats look bland without the netting. any idea how much it would cost to retrofit the option? |

thanks for the reply, no i dont think so they are using a cancelled order as i put some extra options on my order (seat options, nav upgrade), so it has to be my unique order.

The netting behind the seats isn't great, you can't get much in them. Although I've got them, I don't use them as I think it looks a bit messy. The net in the boot is quite handy.

I have the netting on the backs of my seats and I can't even get the big map book in them
They are quite tight so I can't see them being much use either ![]() |

I hope I didn't just get a boot net for 45 pounds (or whatever it was). Does this option include the cup holders, as I seem to remember this was the pop up photo in the car builder on the web.

I can't recall ever speccing extended storage, and I've got the netting on the backs of the seats, and cup holders. You've plenty of water nearby Ed, so I'm sure some use can be found for them (Do they have fish in reservoirs?)

pretty apalling IMO that BMW start removing things like that on a £50k car. They also removed the torch from the glovebox and the option to heat/cool the can holder in the armrest. Also, if you spec 6FL you used to get a leather ipod 'jacket' fitted under the armrest, this has also now been deleted. |

the tray that fits under the rear shelf in trunk, and slides out (which to my mind is the only worthy addition) and is a part of storage package. It is about 300 usd as a part in US, so add some 20% on top of that and you will get a European price. PLus installation charges. It's like with MOST retrofit cost in BMWs - from cruise control, to storage packages, to antrhacite headliner, you name it. It will all COST you a lot of money.
if you cant get it into the car anymore, that's bad. You won't miss it that much since you dont have it, but sure, it's not nice. I certainly wish i had it. then again, i just have the little box in floor in trunk where i keep all the stuff. it's ok. to hear that they dont have nets on M3s is ... well, shocking really. I just try and try to imagine that Lexus would do this and I can't. For facks sake, some Yaris will have it, not to mention all the french cars.

BMW guy,
All these parts are available for retrofit see real oem .com, the only point is do you want to pay dealer labour to fit them? The nets are tight, and you risk damaging the seat backs if you put anything hard in the nets. Small stuff just falls through the holes too. I can't even fit a small brolly in them, well you can but then they go all baggy afterwards. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...27&hg=52&fg=95 Extended storage (493) includes the nets & 12v power point in the rear console, that's all. Extended luggage (418) has load more including the boot box & net etc - have you ordered that? |

The nets on the back of the front seats aren't very useful - they're quite small and tight and don't store much. However, I agree, they should be standard on all models - how much can they cost to add FFS?
The boot net is very handy, especially when you've got something you don't want rolling around. Do all cars have the locating lugs in the boot floor so you buy it seperately? The drawer under the parcel shelf is a mixed blessing - its great for storing small items but it restricts the already narrow boot opening and reduces the storage height. Whenever, I need space in the boot (going away etc) it always ends up being taken out and left at home!

i bought neither the extended storage (493) nor the Extended luggage (418).
i thought the nets looked nice but a bit delicate. the seat back looks kind of bare without it. extended luggage, was not sure as the cars i have had till now have not had them, thought it would restrict the size of luggage carried. |

I wouldn't even give it a second though. They're completely useless anyway. I've never used mine once. You'll be sat in the front so forget about how the back of the seat looks - I reckon it'd look better without anyway personally.
That said, it's annoying you can't actually add them to your order if you want them.
