Headlight washer leaking
On my '07 E90 with 47,000 miles now. I noticed the driver's side headlight washer has been leaking for about a week now.
The leak varies from about a pint to a gallon in a week. Since it was washer fluid, I took the driver's front wheel wheel off and the front section of the wheel well liner off to get access to the driver's side headlight washer and find it dripping from where the connection is (clip on/off with a purple o-ring on the hose), disconnected it and the o-ring looks good, wiped it down and reconnected it, the leak stopped. However when I set the headlights washer off to test it, it drips again but this time I traced it to the headlight washer cylinder from the inside of the car. When I set it off and clean it between tests, the leak rate is random. Not sure if it's supposed to come from there but when the headlight washer extended and sprayed, it retracts then washer fluid comes dripping out along the bottom of the plastic cylinder on the outside from inside the car. It seems like the driver's side headlight washer is defective. I asked a co-worker who's bro is a BMW tech, was told it's a common problem and the front fasica would have to come off to replace the headlight washer....I was like oh man.... Since there's about 3,000 miles left before the warrenty expires, I'm a bit worried about the techs taking the whole front off since I could get to it from the driver's side wheel well.

Replace the headlight washer.
Inside fender liner has to come off to replace it. Kid doesn't know what he's talking about. ??? Profit.

Last tuesday while pulling out of a gas station, SES light came on. Called dealer the next morning to make a service appointment...2 days later the light went out.
Today they replaced both headlights washers while they were at it...tech found the right side leaking but little compared to the left side. they didn't have to remove the front fasica to replace it...just the wheel well covers. They did pull fault code 2AD8 and did SIB 12-16-07 to correct it. |
