<100 miles - already a transmission issue - pls help!
All - Just took delivery of '09 e93 @ performance center today (automatic). Drove it out, all was fine. Drove around 90 miles up I-85 @ 80mph, fine. Took offramp toward home, fine. Accelerated from stop light and felt a "jerk" between gears and thought, weird...
Every shift since then, from 3rd to 4th, is clunky or jerky... kind of like you had a switch and killed the ignition momentarily. No other gear change does this, just 3rd to 4th. Ironically enough, just got rid of my CPO 545 with only 55K miles because the stealer could not find a very similar issue between 5th and 6th. They said the shift was "firm" but not out of spec. Anyone ever heard of this before? I have a 7:30 am appt. tomorrow for them to take a look but cannot believe that my brand new, $62K car, with < 100 miles is headed to the dealer!!! Thanks to all, J |

Is it a 335 or a 328? The 328 has a GM transmission, which shifts more roughly than the ZF unit in the 335i. Perhaps you're feeling the roughness of the GM transmission? Or maybe the software needs time to learn your driving pattern?
Either way, if the noise is clearly abnormal then you need to take it in. It sucks yeah, but defects happen. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw with these things. |

Yikes, don't get a brand new car repainted! Take it to an experienced detailer first, at least for an estimate or opinion. You really don't want to break factory paint if at all possible, it's never the same.

UPDATE:
Well, made the trip to the dealer this am... drove the 20 miles from my house to their location. At about mile 18.5, the car started to perform perfectly... no transmission jerks, shudders, etc. So, I guess it's good news so long as it does not come back... the SA says I'm really hard on transmissions to have broken one in 100 miles. Sometimes I wonder if we're whipped or what. Two weeks ago my car just shuts off while I'm driving among traffic. Then today my trunk symbol lights up, I pull over to check it, and it's not open. Seriously, would we put up with this c*** with a Hyundai? Well, first of all I guess that's a tough question because a Hyundai would be way more reliable to begin with. But just think of all the things that happen with BMW yet we're still loyal to them.

I had a similar issue when my car was new. I've read about others having the issue too. I thought my rough shift was from 2nd to 3rd, but it could have been 3rd to 4th. It smoothed out over 100 miles or so. I think it just needed to be broken in.
Funny, I also had defective paint....only on my hood. I baulked at the idea of a repaint, so they swapped out a hood with another car of the same color. Very nice of them. I'm sure they could do the same for your trunk lid...unless you have a less common color like red. |

I'm on my third Big Money Waster. Each time something goes wrong I say, "thats it! Never again!"
I went and test drove a Ford and a Toyota. Then I got back in my Bimmer and said, 'I'll live with the problems". Everything from the feel of the steering wheel, the smooth power, the tight steering....BMW kicks serious arse! Just like a gorgeous women, BMW's are high maintenance. If you don't like it, marry a fat woman and get a Kia. |

Do yourself a favor and take a good shot of the paint defect and share it with us on the detailing forum and over at autopia.org. I question the advice you've gotten so far.
