I am attaching the installation manual for the E90 BT retrofit. Ther are two files, one for a pre-wired car and one for a non pre-wired car. I am told that cars come pre-wired for BT in the US if they have I-drive? however, the file that is for pre-wired cars, details how to install a BT Aerial, Hands-Free Microphone, and other entities that I thought already come installed on the E90 with I-Drive? Any thoughts?

I have "with prep" so kind of interested in this - however looking at instructions requires the inevitable software upgrade so i would guess DIY not possible.

Now, that I have done the retrofit I can report to you how it worked:
My car was prewired. So everything was Plug & Play. In the trunk I only had to connect the 3 wires. No problem. Watch out, that you buy the right nuts for the bracket. My dealer gave me wrong ones. Installing the BT antenna is also very simple. Open the three screws under the steering wheel and open the compartment. Now you can clip in the antenna and connect it to the wire. Installing the mic is a bit more difficult, because you have to remove the roof control center. I used a very small screwdriver to clip it out. But there are several ways described in the forum. Removing the blind plate is a bit difficult but with two very small screwdrifers you can clip it out and lift it. Now the most difficult part: The rear backrest... First remove the backseats. You just have to pull it up and it clips out. Under the armrest there are two big T20 or T25 screws. You need a big tool or much armpower to remove them. But be carefull!!! Then you have to go into the trunk. There are two holes, the emergence exit ![]() Now you have to take it out. Don't try to pull it towards the front seats and work with the backrest still in the car. On the right side there are the Most-Bus connectors. Just follow the green cables. Remove them and try to clip the covers out. They are very hard to seperate. I broke both of them so better buy two new ones at your dealer... Now you just have to disconnect one wire of each connector and put it into the other connector. Use a small screwdriver for that. Now why you had to remove the backrest completely: Clean the holes for the screws. They are fitted into the holes with some sort of glue. You have to remove it completely. Then put in the backrest and clip it into the "emergency exit". Now put in the screws. But be careful! I destroyed one of the threads...the screws are very hard and the threads are very soft. But it also works with one screw in place ![]() Now you have to go to your dealer and reprogram the retrofit.

Hmmm...difficult. Its VERY difficult to get the roof control center out and the screws of the backrest in. The rest is plug and play.
I don't have pics. Nothing interesting...removing the roof c....is already described with pics in the forums and the rest is not worth making pics ![]()

The retrofit is working exactely the same as factory installed.
The most expencive things are the control module and the eject box. I bought them via Ebay for 130Euro. Additionally you need the BT-Antenna, the microphone and the brackets for control module and eject box. Together 60Euro. I bougth these thing at my local dealer. You can get the part numbers here: http://realoem.com/bmw/ Programming the vehicle costs 114Euro. Total: 304Euro ~ 235$

How can you tell if your vehicle is pre-wired for bluetooth. I have a 2006 e90 with no premium, no i-drive and no BMW assist. Is there any markings? Are all cars in the USA prewired?

Yeah what's the difference for the kit that roveractive sells and what the guy in Germany bought? Is the expensive kit from roveractive necessary if the car isn't prewired?? If part numbers are listed I'll be buying tonight lol. I love the BT in my dad's 330 so my car has to have it if it costs under $400US.

Yea I'd do the install of the BT myself, I just need the part numbers. I let the dealer do the xenon swap, they charged me 1k for install, footwell module, and programming. They are currently looking at adding another wire today to make the highbeams work properly. Once thats done my xenon swap will be the first done that are fully functional and w/o an error.
The bonus about letting them do the xenon swap is the tech did a better job then most of the people who did them on their own. He got a faulty harness and used the plugs to add the wires. This way everything is completely waterproof and looks perfectly stock. I feel the 1k was more than worth it.
