Mods deleting threads

Instead of deleting the whole thread, why can't they just close it and explain the reason? Makes it easier for us when we are trying to Search for the thread.

If there's nothing much of substance in the original post or in the replies, or if we feel that the thread was made to troll, there's no reason why it needs to stay as a thread.
