Logic 7 Sound System Opinions
For those of you that own or have spent time with the Logic 7 sound system in the 335i, what are your impressions? Any reviews?
Thanks! |

I have it in my 330i and its ok. For a BMW I think they could have had a better sound system. But I am not unhappy with it.

I primarily listen to CDs with MP3 files on them. I don't think it reads the tags from the files for the track/artist name, so you need to be sure your filenames reflect that info. There are programs out there that can automatically rename all your mp3 files on your computer in a consistent manner. The sound quality is excellent. I'm thinking of getting the ipod integration but as I don't own an ipod this would end up costing me somewhere around $500 or more ($200 for the ipod and at least $300 for the integration install). Not sure if its worth it or not. Maybe Santa will bring me an Ipod and that would take care of almost half of it. I don't use either of the concert/theater (or whatever they're called) settings cause they seem to make the sound worse. But there is a 7-band EQ which, IMHO, is essential in any audio system and usually can make even bad systems sound okay (relatively speaking). Controlling it through Idrive is a little painful because the menus are sometimes slow. Sometimes changing tracks from the steering controls is slow too, don't know if that's Idrive-related or not. You can perform basic functions (change source, track, volume) from the controls on the wheel.

I have it in my e92 328xi and I think its great. Ive had some very nice car stereos before and this one would rival them. For a stock system I think its pretty good. Better then my Audi or my Acura. Much better than my e46 3 series.
Sound quality is crisp and clear good base. Just took a 400 mile trip with 3 others and impressed them. They have a Volvo C90. Much better than theirs. I'm sure that with several thousand dollars you could improve on it with an aftermarket but its very nicely integrated into the car.

I'm not an expert audiophile by any means, but I have installed medium-medium/high end audio systems in other automobiles and the L7 is very good in my opinion. It's very clear and crisp and for a stock system, it pushed pretty hard. I don't know if it's worth the extra $$$, but since it comes with the 330i/335i, I'm not complaining.

I agree that the sound system is superior to most I've heard. I just think it is unfortunate that the two logic7 surround modes they offer both suck. They add way to much reverb to the music and are useless in my opinion. That was one thing the E46 sounds system was much better at.

I'm a musician and something of a sound snob, and IMO the Logic 7 system is very good for an OEM system. I doubt you will be disappointed.

I have a very critical ear when it comes to music (I was trained as a classical pianist) and I like the Logic7. Could it be better, sure, but it is near excellent for a stock car system.
One thing people fail to take into consideration when discussing how a sound system sounds is the music source. Even the best system will sound awful with a poor source. I recommend using a few reference tracks (brought along on an iPod or CD) as a test. The results may be surprising.

Depends on what type of music you listen to most often. Classical & Jazz tend to sound much better on this system then say Hip-Hop, Rap, Dance/Club music. IMO the bottom end (subwoofers) are the weakest link in the system. That can easily be remedied by adding an additional amp and sub in the trunk. Some members have replaced the stock subs with aftermarket subs and added an amp.

The L7 is a very good system for the cabin size of the e92. My wife has an 02 745i with pretty much the same system and it is awesome.
Comparing apples to apples, IMO the only system I have heard better is the Acura TL. |
